The 1990s and 2000s may have been 30 and 20 years ago now (yikes, we feel so old), but those eras are just as trendy today as they were back then. And with the birth of social media sites like TikTok, we're actually getting to relive a lot of those iconic decade moments with the stars who made them so memorable. For instance, several celebs have recently re-created their most iconic outfits as a way to honor anniversaries of their projects or remind their fans that they've still got it.
Stars including Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez may be older now, but they're no less chic, and they can still pull off a '90s or early 2000s look with the best of them. And walking down memory lane with our fave celebs will never get old. Here are 15 of our favorite outfit re-creations.
Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon kept all the amazing outfits from when she filmed Legally Blonde, and a few years ago she did a try-on for social media. She even re-created the moment where she says, "Whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed," while dressed in her character's same pink newsboy cap and pink and purple off-the-shoulder top.
Alicia Silverstone
A few years ago, Clueless star Alicia Silverstone appeared on Lip Sync Battle to sing Iggy Azalea's "Fancy." And just like how Iggy paid tribute to Clueless in the "Fancy" music video, Alicia rewore her iconic yellow plaid outfit from the film on stage.
We always love to see an actor who's proud of their big hits. And Alicia loves Clueless just like the rest of us. In fact, she just re-created her "as if" scene on TikTok with her son, Bear.
Gwen Stefani
No Doubt's hit song "Don't Speak" had its 25th anniversary on April 15, 2021, and Gwen Stefani celebrated by rewearing her blue polka-dot dress from the music video. She also added a new detail to the look — white fringe cowboy boots — because the rock star is dating a country man now.
Fran Drescher
Vintage is in, and we're loving Fran Drescher's outfit repeat of this bold rainbow vest. She first wore it when playing Fran Fine on The Nanny in 1994. Nearly three decades later, she rocked the look again for a promotional HBO Max photo shoot. This reminds us, can we get a Nanny reboot, please?
Brian Stepanek
TikTok has honestly brought us so many amazing celebrity re-creations, like this one from Suite Life of Zack & Cody actor Brian Stepanek. He played hotel engineer Arwin, and apparently he's still got the coveralls to prove it. This is another show we'd love to see get revived for a new generation.
Cher
The singer was given the Icon Award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards and she showed up looking like an icon in a replica of her sparkly black jumpsuit from the "If I Could Turn Back Time" music video. Cher doesn't need to turn back time when she still looks this good in a catsuit. The outfit deserved an Icon Award of its own.
Geri 'Ginger Spice' Halliwell
Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice was known for the bold Union Jack flag dress she wore while performing with the Spice Girls in the '90s. So much so that a few years back she designed a whole line of clothing with the brand Next based around the dress. The line had bikinis, dresses, and shirts featuring the red, white, and blue flag pattern.
Cassie Steele
Who can forget the time Degrassi actress Cassie Steele showed up in character wearing a visible blue thong, jeans, and a light blue peasant sleeve crop top? We can't and neither did she, because she pulled Manny's look back out recently for a super nostalgic TikTok walk down memory lane.
Christa B. Allen
Christa played the younger version of Jennifer Garner's character in 13 Going on 30, but now that she's almost 30 herself, Christa has taken to re-creating moments from the 30-year-old version of the character. For Halloween in 2020, Christa dressed up in adult Jenna Rink's iconic rainbow dress.
Rita Moreno
In 1962, Rita Moreno won the award for best supporting actress at the Oscars for her role in West Side Story. In 2018, she was asked to present at the Oscars, and she showed up in the exact same dress. Sure, 56 years may have passed in between, but you'd hardly know it. Rita was fabulous then, and she's fabulous now.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian's 2013 Met Gala look is pretty controversial. Some people hated the floral gown and some people loved it (actually, probably just Kanye loved it). But Kim brought the look back for Halloween in 2015 since she was pregnant again — that time with Saint. "Still fits …" she captioned her Instagram pic.
Kimberly J. Brown
Kimberly J. Brown's role of Marnie may have been recast for the fourth Halloweentown movie, but she's still got the OG costume — so who's the real winner? "Just wanted to see if it still fits," she captioned this video of her trying on Marnie's hat, dress, and robe from the Disney Channel film.
Britney Spears
During an Instagram fashion show in 2017, Britney Spears showed off a few of her favorite outfits, including a re-creation of her "Baby One More Time" music video outfit. The plaid skirt and cropped button-down shirt bring back so many late '90s, early 2000s memories. All that she was missing were the pigtails.
Dwayne Johnson
This 1996 photo of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is so delightfully of-its-time, from the hair to the turtleneck, chain, jeans, and fanny pack. More than two decades later, Dwayne re-created the outfit to share how far he's come.
"When I took this iconic absurdity of a picture in 1996, I was one year removed from sleeping on a used mattress I took from a garbage dumpster," he wrote on Instagram. "21 years later, I'm taking the same photo backstage hosting #SaturdayNightLive for the fifth time. If you're going thru your own tough times 'used mattress' stage, do your best to have faith things'll get better."
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez's low-cut Versace dress is partially responsible for Google Images. After she wore the gown to the 2000 Grammys, the search engine's employees realized that they were gonna need some way for people to search for images. Twenty years later, J.Lo rewore the dress down the runway at Versace's spring/summer 2020 fashion show.
