15 Celebs Who Took Fashion Too Far & Were Roasted for It

It's hard to talk about fashion and not end up talking about celebrities. Celebrities are not only in the front row of every runway show, they are also the ones wearing all the latest in designer fashions on the red carpet, on magazine covers, and in social media posts clocked by millions of people. It is a big deal to be seen as a fashionable celebrity (who wouldn't want first shot at getting the most fabulous gown for the Oscars?), and there are some stars who love to experiment with bold and innovative looks.

But let's keep it real here: It doesn't always work out for them the way they might have had in mind! While we'd never want our favorite celebrities to stick to boring little black dresses for every red carpet moment, it is clear that sometimes celebs can take fashion too far and end up in some weird territory. Do we even need to mention Lady Gaga and the infamous meat dress anymore?

Unfortunately for the celebs who take fashion too far, the internet is quick to jump on them and roast these epic fashion fails. That might be a bummer for the celebs, but we're not mad at a little celeb roasting, as long as it's funny and not body-shaming. Here, we've rounded up 15 looks that got skewered by fans (and fashion critics alike) — we are still cackling at some of the comments!

At Least It Looks Cozy?

Singer Billie Eilish turned up on the red carpet for a Gucci-sponsored event looking like she was ready for bed — eye mask, blanket, and silk nightgown included. The fashion critics at Go Fug Yourself called it a "Gucci slumber party" and noted that the "actual nightie dress is really underwhelming, so actually the blanket really was serving a purpose."

Beyoncé the Sexy Alien

Look, we all know that Beyoncé is an icon, but she still got some light roasting for this sculptural dress. She wore this to a pre-Grammy Awards brunch and had some people thinking she was giving sexy alien vibes or, as one fan tweeted, that she was out there in a "Got damn Jetsons outfit."

Dated Barbie Vibes

Bebe Rexha is gorgeous and her body is banging. But this 1970s hairstyle and revealing bubblegum pink dress had fashion critics Tom and Lorenzo calling her "Staten Island Barbie." We don't think that quite qualifies as a compliment, even with the new Barbie movie dropping soon.

Where Is the Dress?

Does it count as roasting someone's fashion choices when it looks like they're actually mostly naked? To quote one of the comments on Rita Ora's Instagram page, "I guess wearing clothes is getting optional nowadays." Call us old-fashioned, but if a person has to get a bikini wax in order to wear a dress, it just might not qualify as a dress anymore.

The Struggle Is Real

Up-and-coming singer Latto is a lot of fun to dance to (everyone was bopping to "Big Energy" in 2022), but we sure hope she doesn't try dancing in this outfit. People online couldn't help put note that the buttons on her sweater were fighting for their lives here. She was a sneeze away from having a major wardrobe malfunction!

Met Gala Mess

One of the ironic things about Kim Kardashian is that she clearly loves fashion, and yet she is consistently one of the worst-dressed celebrities. She gets roasted for all the time for her looks (which frequently manage to be both over-the-top sexy and super boring — how does she do it?), but everyone freaked out about this Met Gala look from 2021. We were rolling at the Twitter user who said Kim looked like "the dementors from Harry Potter." Brutal but accurate!

Seeing Red

Doja Cat really committed to this freaky red look for Paris Fashion Week, and not only did some people say she looked demonic or like an alien, but others claimed she was triggering their trypophobia (fear of small holes or repetitive patterns). This was low key a little terrifying!

That Don't Impress Us Much

We love Shania Twain, and she looks so happy in this outfit but she also looks like a character in a Super Mario game. Fans took to her Instagram comments to throw shade, including telling her she should fire her stylist. "Why are you dressing like some cartoon character? You are embarrassing yourself," one person wrote. Ouch!

The Prize

Emma Corrin was so, so, so good as a young Princess Diana in season four of The Crown. But when she walked the red carpet at the My Policeman premiere in October 2022, she was looking a lot less royal and a lot more like she was the prize from a carnival game in this fish-in-a-bag dress. Let's just say it didn't exactly make a splash.

Fancy Lamp

The Met Gala is always a chance for celebs to go for a big look, and Emily Ratajkowski decided her big look was, well, a whole lot of look. More than one person commented that she was giving fancy lamp realness in this outfit, and we can't unsee it!

Desperate as Heck

There is nobody more desperate for attention these days than Julia Fox, which is the only possible explanation for going grocery shopping (and, let's be real, trying to get snapped by the paparazzi) in denim boots and underwear and carrying jeans as a purse. We can't help but agree with the people who lit her up on her Instagram page, including one who said, "If attention-seeking behavior was a person …"

Always Be Naked

We all know that the Kardashian sisters have never been afraid to show some skin, but leave it to Kourtney to figure out how to still look naked while being fully clothed. This dress was an expensive one from French designer brand Balmain, but as one of her followers on Instagram quipped, "All the money in the world and still can't buy taste."

'Twilight' Realness

Lenny Kravitz is forever sexy and cool — there is no denying that. But we couldn't help but laugh at hearing his 2022 Met Gala outfit described by a fashion critic as looking "like he was going for retro rockstar but ended up looking more like an evil vampire from Twilight."

Kylie Killed Simba

Kylie Jenner raised eyebrows in this outfit, complete with a faux (but creepily realistic looking) lion's head. She was going for high fashion but was called out online for looking like she was promoting big game hunting or like she was starring in a bleak version of The Lion King.

A Meaty Moment

We had to end on a classic! How can we talk about celebs getting roasted for their fashion choices and not mention the celeb who wore an outfit that could literally get roasted? Though Lady Gaga's gone in a much more classic direction in recent years, we'll never forget the meat dress-era Gaga!
