21 of the Most Unexpected Celebrity Bromances

The term "bromance" was essentially born of quintessential Hollywood guy friendships like that of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and Brad Pitt and George Clooney. So it's no surprise that there are a slew of male celebrities who seem to be kindred spirits. Making real, authentic friends can be tough for the rich and famous, so they tend to roll in tight social circles — and many end up becoming besties after running into each other both on- and off-set over the years. You never know when a friendship will bloom out of a chance encounter.

We have to be honest, though: Some of Hollywood's thriving celebrity bromances are actually quite eyebrow-raising. They're odd couples, to say the least. But you know what? If anything, these unexpected celebrity bromances prove that things like age, background, and even religion do not dictate the success of friendships.

It's fun to watch these guys find common ground and kinship in their extraordinary existences. It definitely makes them seem more human when we watch them joshing around with their buds from all different walks of life. Just like us, celebrities sometimes find friends in the least likely places, and when they spark a bromance, it's almost like they're just one of the guys. Scroll on to see some of the most surprising and unexpected guy friendships in Hollywood.

Whoa! We honestly had no idea about this one until now. The iconic American rapper and legendary English soccer player met in 2007 when David Beckham made a guest appearance on Snoop Dogg's reality series, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood. The two have been bros ever since, and Snoop also has admitted to sending David his new music before it's released.

Pitbull & John Travolta

Actor John Travolta, who is 67 years old, and pop rapper Pitbull, who is 40, have been friends since at least 2019, when John appeared in Pit's video for "3 To Tango." Then in 2020, John performed on stage with Pitbull during the Premio Lo Nuestros awards. The two really hit it off, and it seems Pitbull now considers John something of a showbiz mentor — he even dedicated a post to the Grease star on his Instagram for his birthday.

Bob Saget & Macauley Culkin

This one is so strange, but it actually kind of makes sense. Despite their 25-year age difference, Macauley Culkin and Bob Saget's careers both peaked at around the same time. Bob is a comic and even though he's best known for his turn on the '90s sitcom Full House, his raunchy stand-up acts are something we think Macauley would enjoy. In the fall of 2020, they chatted on Macauley's Bunny Ears podcast for so long that their conversation had to be split into two episodes. They've also been spotted hanging out together in public quite frequently.

Zac Efron & Seth Rogen

That's right, as odd as it may seem, these two are friends in real life. Zac Efron got his start as a pretty boy singing and dancing across the stage, while Seth Rogen got his start, well, making fun of those sorts of guys. But they actually get along really well these days, just like Zac is actually a really good actor these days. Hilariously, Seth actually admitted that he wasn't expecting Zac to be such a cool guy before he met him.

Kanye West & Brad Pitt

This one comes as a huge surprise! We didn't even know Kanye West and Brad Pitt's circles grazed each other. Despite whatever personal issues each of them is going through, they are both well-respected in their fields and in the entertainment industry in general. Apparently, they kept running into each other at events and eventually sparked a friendship. Pictures of Brad attending Ye's Sunday Service in 2019 went viral, and Brad later explained at the premiere of his film Ad Astra that he respects Kanye as a visionary and a musician and likes that he bucks the status quo.

Jason Momoa & Lenny Kravitz

It might seem odd that Jason Momoa has a serious bromance with his wife's ex-husband, but the reality is, they've been in each other's lives for quite some time. Though they only married in 2017, Jason and Lisa Bonet have been a couple since 2005. That means that Jason has been around for almost half of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa's daughter Zoe Kravitz's life. It would actually be a shame if they never became friends in all of that time. Plus, all three of them are so bohemian, we guess it kind of makes sense that they would be more open to atypical family dynamics.

Vince Vaughn & Robert Pattinson

Funnyman Vince Vaughn and notoriously serious British actor Robert Pattinson have been buds since at least 2013. Back then, they were caught hanging out together in Los Angeles for the first time, but there have since been many other sightings of the pair. Not only is there a pretty big age difference between the two of them, but they also seem to have totally different personalities. But somehow, their friendship just works.

Justin Theroux & Jonathan Van Ness

Yup, that's right. Actor and screenwriter Justin Theroux, who is currently starring in the very serious series The Mosquito Coast, slid into Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness' DMs, and now they're legit friends. Jonathan said they bonded over their love of all things grooming.

John Mayer & Dave Chappelle

This friendship is so, so bizarre, but it's been ongoing since 2004 when musician John Mayer appeared on Chappelle's Show. They even do stand-up shows together now, which sounds crazy, but apparently it works. John really seems to have a lot of respect for Dave Chappelle professionally, which is pretty cool.

Matt Damon & Jimmy Kimmel

A-list actor and screenwriter Matt Damon is of course best known for his iconic bromance with fellow Bostonian and Good Will Hunting star Ben Affleck — but you know, he's a guy's guy, so he has other bros. Matt and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel are good buds with a penchant for playing pranks on each other.

Elton John & Eminem

"I just adore him," music legend Sir Elton John said about controversial but chart-topping rapper Eminem, who has often been accused of being homophobic — and no, Elton wasn't being sarcastic. He and Eminem are actually good friends. They've performed together, they keep in touch regularly, and Eminem even bought Elton and his husband, David Furnish — get this — diamond-encrusted sex toys as a wedding gift. That's gotta be true friendship!

Tom Hiddleston & Ed Sheeran

We wonder how Taylor Swift feels about this one. She and Ed Sheeran are famously good friends, so it's a bit surprising that Ed can say the same about her ex-boyfriend, English actor Tom Hiddleston. Tom is actually a big fan of Ed's music and attends his concerts and they hang out.

Jared Padalecki & Milo Ventimiglia

OK, we have to admit, this one is only weird because of the characters Jared Padalecki and Milo Ventimiglia played on Gilmore Girls. Now matter how successful they've been on TV since then, we just can't seem to divorce them from Dean and Jess, who of course both dated Rory and didn't like each other at all. In real life, though, they've confessed to being quite good friends.

Jay-Z & Nick Jonas

OK yes, Jay-Z and Nick Jonas are both musicians, but there's a big difference between a former drug-dealing billionaire rapper and a former devout Christian boy band member. Their friendship really started out more professionally, and Jay has acted as something of a mentor to Nick as he branched out in his musical stylings, but the two actually hang out as friends quite a bit these days.

Mark Wahlberg & Jimmy Butler

Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg and Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler became unlikely friends a few years ago. Despite their age difference and allegiances to two different cities and sports franchises, they hit it off. Who united them? Mark's kids! They're big fans of Jimmy's, and their interest is what helped the friendship blossom.

Jonah Hill & Brad Pitt

The unlikely pair that is goofball actor Jonah Hill and suave and sexy Brad Pitt hit it off when they were filming the 2011 movie Moneyball. Jonah has said publicly that he learned a lot about filmmaking from Brad during that time, and that he's been an inspiration for him. The two reportedly also have similar taste in music, which of course is a great way to bond.

Tony Romo & Chace Crawford

It may be public knowledge, but we didn't even realize that Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo are brothers-in-law! But everyone knows that doesn't necessarily mean friendship. However, these two turned out to be quite compatible.

Matthew McConaughey & Guy Fieri

A love for calorie-laden comfort food brought these two together. Actor Matthew McConaughey and TV chef Guy Fieri became friends because Matthew was a huge fan of Guy's show, Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. They've been pals for more than 15 years, and Matthew was even able to present Guy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2021.

TV personality James Cordon and Mamma Mia! star Dominic Cooper have been friends since before they were even famous. In fact, they were roommates back in London, and Dominic actually introduced James to his wife, Julia Carey. Talk about having history together!

30 Rock actor Jack McBrayer and True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård shocked fans when they showed up to the SAG Awards together in 2018. No, they're not a couple, but they are actually good friends, which is kind of funny when you think of how different the most famous characters they've played are.

Zach Braff & Harry Styles

Former boy bander Harry Styles stars in the 2021 movie Don't Worry, Darling with Scrubs actor Zach Braff's girlfriend, Florence Pugh, and the two consequently ended up spending quite a bit of time together in 2020. But that wasn't the start of their bromance. They actually met in 2014 when Harry attended the Sundance premiere of Zach's film Wish I Was Here, and they've been good friends ever since.
