After the trick-or-treating is done and the costumes are off, one of our favorite parts of Halloween is kicking back and scrolling through social media to find out what costumes our favorite celebrities wore this year. Some of them take DIY or store-bought approaches (as most of us do), while others go all out, using their connections in the entertainment world to help them out with amazing costumes, makeup, and sometimes even prosthetics. And of course, 2021 was no different.
From Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's epic coordinating family costumes to Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker pulling off what we're sure will be the first of many couples costumes to come, the stars did not hold back on the Halloween fun — and as far as we can tell, neither did their kids!
Grab a handful of candy and scroll on to see our picks for the best celebrity Halloween costumes this year.
Lizzo
Lizzo usually goes all out on Halloween, and this year was no different. She pulled off a pretty impressive version of Grogu from The Mandalorian (or baby Yoda, as he's more commonly known) — green face makeup and all. That coat does look like a cozy choice.
Steve Buscemi
Steve Buscemi went as Steve Buscemi this year, which couldn't have been more perfect. He was spotted handing out candy to trick-or-treaters while dressed as himself in the famous meme from 30 Rock where he's playing a character pretending to be a teenager. How do you do, fellow kids?
Brie Bella's Family
It's Buddy Danielson's second Halloween, and he definitely came prepared. This year, Brie and husband Bryan Danielson dressed their family up as the Addams Family, and their daughter, Birdie, made the perfect Wednesday. Not to mention the fact that Brie looks a little too at home in that Morticia costume.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend
The Addams Family proved to be a popular choice for celeb families this year. (And why not? It's a classic). Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, and their kids — along with Chrissy's mom, Pepper — dressed up as the spooky family, taking photos with the most impressive backdrop.
Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka
Year after year, Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, and their kids, Harper and Gideon, always seem to blow the celebrity Halloween costume competition out of the water — so the bar is high for this family. This time around, they went for something scary rather than cute. Gideon does make a rather convincing Chucky.
Kourtney Kardashian & Travis Barker
Given that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have been everywhere lately, of course this freshly engaged couple had a very impressive coordinating costume. They dressed as the leads from True Romance, even re-creating the movie's poster.
Ariana Grande & Dalton Gomez
Speaking of couples costumes, here's another one that totally blew us away. Ariana did not skimp on the prosthetics for her Creature From the Black Lagoon look. She was joined by her husband, Dalton Gomez, who dressed as a scuba diver.
Hailey Bieber
A lot of people have Britney Spears on the brain these days since her conservatorship battle has been making headlines, and Hailey Bieber isn't much different. She dressed up in several of the pop star's most iconic looks, from her "Baby One More Time" schoolgirl music video outfit to the latex bodysuit she wore for her "Oops I Did It Again" video.
Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr.
Dirty Dancing has inspired a lot of Halloween costumes over the years, and this time around, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. took it to another level. Dressing up as Baby and Johnny, they took photos re-creating some of the movie's most memorable scenes.
Kerry Washington
Considering how huge Squid Game has been on Netflix, it's no surprise that it inspired a lot of Halloween costumes this year. Kerry Washington dressed up as a contestant from the show, and if you swipe over, you'll see a spooky video that shows just how seriously she took it.
Gabrielle Union's Daughter
Kaavia Wade is always down to make a fashion statement, so of course her Halloween costume this year was gorgeous, too. Parents Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade dressed their 2-year-old up like Adele for the holiday, and we're loving how accurately she channeled the singer's signature poses.
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas
Those of us who grew up adoring the Disney Channel probably immediately recognized this costume. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner dressed up as Paolo and Isabella from The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and they were joined by friend Olivia De Jonge to fill Lizzie's role.
Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom
Here's a Halloween costume that also makes a statement. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom dressed up to support vaccinations, with Katy (in a totally custom-made outfit) as a vaccine and Orlando as a doctor. "Stay safe guys," Katy wrote in her caption.
Cardi B & Kulture
How cute are these two? Both Cardi B and her 3-year-old daughter, Kulture, dressed as witches in matching all-black looks. We didn't get a glimpse of her baby boy, who was born last month, but it looks like the rapper was getting in some quality time with her firstborn.
Reese Witherspoon
A Hollywood legend herself, Reese Witherspoon took a cue from an iconic movie in creating her costume this year. She dressed as Tippi Hendren's character in The Birds, wearing a blue suit that was covered in birds (can't forget her matching headband, either).
Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling usually pulls off a few costumes each year, and this time around there was definitely a theme. She dressed as a few well-known female comedians, including Amber Ruffin, Ali Wong, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Issa Rae, and Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde.
Harry Styles
The former One Direction singer performed his Harryween concerts all weekend — shows at NYC's Madison Square Garden where fans were encouraged to come in costume. Of course, that meant Harry had to dress up, too, and on the first night, he showed up as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.
