The off-screen romances in Hollywood are often just as dramatic and fascinating to watch as the fictional ones depicted in movies and TV shows. Especially with the rise of paparazzi and tabloids, we've gotten an inside peek at some of the biggest affairs, splits, and reconciliations in Hollywood.
From Brennifer and Brangelina to Jelena and Jailey, we're taking a look back at some of the most drama-filled celebrity love triangles of all time. Even though some of these romantic spats took place decades ago, they rocked Hollywood then, and the ripple effect can still be felt today. And some of these love triangles are brand new, with fans and the media still trying to sort through all the details to find out who possibly cheated on who and when.
Let's dive into the drama.
Eddie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor
Singing in the Rain actress Debbie Reynolds and her husband, Eddie Fisher, were close with Elizabeth Taylor. So when Elizabeth's husband Mike Todd died, Debbie sent Eddie to go comfort their friend. That soon turned into an affair, and Eddie left Debbie and their two children (including a young Carrie Fisher) for Elizabeth. Years later, the two women mended their friendship, though. "You have to look at what life is all about, and is it worth it? And is he worth it?" Debbie said. "The friendship was perhaps worth more."
Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Soon-Yi Previn
Controversial film director Woody Allen first met Soon-Yi Previn in the context that she was Mia Farrow's adopted daughter. Mia and Woody were together for 10 years until he began a relationship with Soon-Yi when she was 21. Understandably, this shattered Mia and Woody's relationship. "You don't get to have sex with my children," Mia said about the matter years later. "That isn't part of the deal."
Woody and Soon-Yi have been married since 1997.
Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston — affectionately known to fans and the media as Brennifer — had been married four years when Brad met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In the film, they played a married assassin duo, and the chemistry between them leaked off-screen. By early 2005, Brad and Jennifer had called it quits, and Brangelina became a thing. Even nearly two decades later, the tabloid narrative of jilted ex continues to follow Jennifer around.
Aaron Carter, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan
Back when Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan were the queens of teen movies, singer Aaron Carter tried to date them both at the same time. "I was actually dating [Hilary] for like a year and a half," Aaron said. "Then I just got a little bored, so I went and I started getting to know Lindsay. And then I didn't want to do that anymore, so I got back with Hilary." Needless to say, his hopping around didn't lead to a lasting romance for either couple.
Years later, Aaron tried reconciling with Hilary, but she wasn't having it.
Drake, Serena Williams, Common
Beefs between rappers are pretty standard, but the reason for the drama varies. In the case of the 2012 spat between Drake and Common, it all came down to Serena Williams. Common and Serena dated from 2007 until 2010 and then she was rumored to have gotten with Drake.
"At that time, I think [the drama] was the Drake-Serena situation. I didn't know what was going on with that," Common explained years later. "So unfortunately, the war might have been over a girl."
Serena now has a drama-free life with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and daughter, Olympia.
Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift, Camilla Belle
In 2008, Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas dated — until he infamously dumped her via phone call. After that, he dated Camilla Belle, about whom Taylor allegedly wrote "Better Than Revenge." The 2010 song is all about a woman who steals another woman's boyfriend. Camilla and Joe's relationship only lasted a few months.
Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift, Tom Hiddleston
Several years after the Joe/Camilla situation, Taylor found herself in another love triangle. After she and Calvin Harris split and she quickly moved on with actor Tom Hiddleston, rumors flew that Taylor had allegedly cheated on Calvin. Whether or not that's true, the duo did go from having an amicable split to a nasty one.
It all started when Taylor revealed that she'd written the song for Calvin, "This Is What You Came For." Calvin acknowledged that she'd done a good job on the song, but complained that she'd allegedly only revealed her involvement to hurt him. "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex-bf down for something to do," he tweeted.
Eddie Cibrian, Brandi Glanville, LeAnn Rimes
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville found out about her husband's affair via the tabloid media. "There was video footage of them kissing over the table. It was devastating," Brandi wrote for the Sun. "I went straight home, passed out in my closet, cried and cried. He tried to convince me it wasn't real but I knew it was over."
Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes married in 2011, three years after Brandi discovered their relationship. By 2016, all three of them had mended fences enough to attend Brandi and Eddie's son Jake's soccer game together (pictured here).
Prince Charles, Princess Diana, Camilla Parker-Bowles
It's not just Hollywood that has dramatic love triangles. Prince Charles became enamored with Camilla Parker-Bowles (then Camilla Shand) long before he'd met Lady Diana Spencer. But the royal family reportedly didn't see Camilla as future queen and pressured Charles to find someone more "suitable." So Charles married Diana, but he never gave up on his relationship with Camilla, frequently seeing her while married to the Princess of Wales. As Diana infamously said about the love triangle, "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."
Charles and Camilla finally wed in 2005 and have been together ever since.
Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Justin Bieber
Orlando Bloom seemingly didn't like how cozy Justin Bieber had been with his then-wife Miranda Kerr at the 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. According to TMZ, Orlando and Justin ran into one another at a restaurant in 2014, and Orlando tried to throw a punch at the singer. After the fight, Justin briefly Instagrammed a photo of Miranda — because he just doesn't know when to stop.
Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Hailey Baldwin
Justin is no stranger to love triangles, although they usually involved Selena Gomez. Notably, Justin and Selena got back together in late 2017 after she broke things off with The Weeknd. But it wasn't meant to be, as Justin soon moved on to Hailey Baldwin and ended up marrying her. Selena reportedly wrote "Lose You To Love Me" about the heartbreak she experienced in that situation, with lyrics like, "In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy."
Tyga, Kylie Jenner, Blac Chyna, Rob Kardashian
This love triangle was more of a complicated love square. Blac Chyna and Tyga were together first, and had their son King in 2012. They were engaged to be married when Tyga struck up a romance with Kylie Jenner. To make matters more complicated, Blac Chyna then got with Kylie's half-brother Rob Kardashian, and they had a daughter together named Dream. Talk about messy.
Tristan Thompson, Khloé Kardashian, Jordyn Woods
Kylie and Rob aren't the only Kardashian-Jenner family members who have been in a love triangle. Khloé Kardashian found herself in one with Kylie's longtime friend Jordyn Woods when Jordyn and Khloé's baby daddy, Tristan Thompson, kissed at a party. This was the second time Tristan had been caught cheating, only it was made that much worse by the Jordyn betrayal of it all.
Harry Styles, Olivia Wilde, Jason Sudeikis
Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde met on set of the film Don't Worry Darling, and began dating soon after her split with Jason Sudeikis. Sources differ on whether Harry was the inciting factor in Olivia and Jason calling off their engagement. "Whether Harry knows it or not, he was a reason for the split, and it blindsided Jason — he totally adores Olivia and is devastated," one source said to Us Weekly. Another claimed Harry "was in no way the reason" for their split, though.
Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter
Like how the Hilary/Lindsay/Aaron triangle rocked teens in the early 2000s, the Joshua/Olivia/Sabrina triangle is rocking the teen world now. The drama all started when Olivia Rodrigo released "Driver's License," a song peppered with references to someone breaking her heart and leaving her for another woman. Rumors flew that it was about how Joshua Bassett and Olivia allegedly dated and then he left her for fellow Disney actress Sabrina Carpenter. Sabrina then made her own song, "Skin," which seemed to reference "Driver's License." And then Olivia dropped a whole breakup album that must have made filming with Joshua on the High School Musical series super awkward.
