Cheryl Hines recently addressed her husband’s alleged affair with a political reporter … sort of. Declining to comment on the scandal directly, she said there’s no point in “going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it” during a recent Wall Street Journal interview.

In 2024, New York magazine published a statement about Olivia Nuzzi, who was the publication’s Washington Correspondent at the time. According to the statement, Olivia was placed on leave after she “acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign.”
The statement did not name RFK Jr. specifically, but multiple outlets later identified him as the person Olivia allegedly had an affair with. In a statement shared with People, Olivia claimed that the relationship “was never physical.” But in the weeks that followed, multiple salacious allegations emerged. For example, Olivia’s former fiancé, Ryan Lizza, alleged that RFK Jr. expressed desire to “possess” and “impregnate” Olivia.
In spite of all of this, Cheryl and her husband ‘trust each other.’
Cheryl and RFK Jr. have been married since 2014. She didn’t comment on how the alleged affair affected their marriage, but did shed some light on their relationship.
“I don’t think there’s any point to going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it,” Cheryl told the Wall Street Journal. “Bobby and I talk about everything, so that’s how we move through everything, and we’re really good friends, and we trust each other.”
The alleged affair sparked divorce rumors, which Cheryl appeared to deny. She added, “One would deduce that we love each other and are still married and whatever we’ve been through is behind us.”
She also addressed the way people have judged her marriage.
Affair aside, people have long had questions about the Curb Your Enthusiasm star’s marriage because she has been described as liberal, and RFK Jr. is now serving in President Donald Trump’s cabinet. During a 2024 interview, RFK Jr. described his wife as “a lifelong Democrat” and said she “would have never imagined” him supporting Trump. People have called Cheryl out over her silence and apparent apathy.
During the interview, Cheryl addressed the criticism she’s received for standing by her husband, which she finds confusing. “At first, you’re thinking, ‘Wow. Why are they so angry or disappointed?'” she said. “Some people can’t even, I don’t know, they can’t even talk about it. It’s really rather strange, actually.”
