Tom Hanks' son, Chet Hanks, is opening up about a difficult time in his life before he got sober. On a new episode of the reality show The Surreal Life that aired earlier this week, Chet admitted that he went on a "three-day Coke binge" that led to him losing nearly 30 days in a short period and ultimately motivated him to get sober. It's been more than two years since then, but it sounds like he still feels the impact of hitting what he said was "rock bottom."

Chet celebrated two years of sobriety while filming 'The Surreal Life.'
In a clip from the show, Chet shows his castmates his Twelve Steps app, mentioning that mom Rita Wilson had texted him to remind him of his sobriety anniversary.
This led to Chet talking about what led him to make the decision to get sober with his costars, who include Kim Zolciak, Tyler Posey, and Macy Gray.
He said he went days without eating or sleeping.
"Two years ago today, I was coming off a three-day coke binge where I didn’t eat, sleep or barely drink any water for three days straight," he said. "When I got to Vegas, I weighed 190 pounds. At the end of it, I weighed 163. I lost 27 pounds in three days, so my disease is gnarly. It’s not pretty."
He decided to go from Las Vegas to rehab, and though it wasn't his first attempt to get clean, this time, it stuck.
Chet described it as hitting 'rock bottom.'
"I just knew, man, if I don’t change my life in a drastic way, either I’m not even going to be around or something bad, so bad, is going to happen that my life might as well be over," he said.
"By the grace of God, I managed to do the work, get myself clean," he added.

This isn't the first time Chet has spoken about his sobriety recently.
When he appeared on the Raw Talk podcast in June, he said that he was once a "cokehead" and ended up being the subject of an intervention staged by his parents at just 17 years old.
"It eats away. You just, like, wither away 'cause you can't eat, you can't sleep," he said.
Chet has also said his sobriety journey helped him bond with costar Tyler Posey.
"It was cool just having another sober person in the house, which I definitely was not expecting," he told Page Six earlier this summer. "That was a huge surprise because, obviously, you know, most places I go, I’m the only sober person. So that right off the bat was cool and something that we connected on."
