Fans have watched Christine Brown on Sister Wives for years now, but there are still a lot of details they don’t know. In her new memoir, Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom, Christine opens up in a way that she never has before. The book, which came out on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, includes details about her falling out with Meri, her sex life with Kody, and her past oxycodone addiction.
On Sister Wives, Christine previously opened up the “intimacy” (or lack thereof) between her and Kody. She said the fact that something was missing in their relationship became obvious to her when Kody married his fourth wife, Robyn. However, based on what she’s described in her memoir, it seems like their intimacy issues go way back.
Christine’s first time having sex with Kody was not what she envisioned.
Christine and Kody shared their first kiss and first sexual experience together on their wedding day. Though Christine thought it would be romantic and magical, it was actually painful — and it sounds like she blames Kody for that, per Us Weekly. In her memoir, she wrote that she “cried” because “it hurt like crazy.” According to her, Kody apologized for this, but didn’t seem to do anything to make the experience more pleasurable for her. “It hurt because there was no foreplay. There was no anything,” she wrote.
After all, she had no sexual experience at that point, but Kody did. She assumed that he would know what he was doing. “It was my very first time after having my very first kiss at the altar, and he was experienced so he should have known,” she wrote.
Later, it became ‘kind of good.’
After a while, their sex life seemed to improve, but maybe not by a lot. A couple years into their marriage, Christine found herself enjoying intimacy with Kody. “Kody and I had great dates. We went on trips together, we sang together in the car. … We loved to dance together,” she wrote, per Us Weekly. “We even got into a rhythm with sex, and there were a few years where it was kind of good.”
She also revealed that she was married to Kody for about two years before she had her first orgasm, which she described as “entirely accidental.”
Christine admits she kept a lot hidden on ‘Sister Wives.’
Speaking to People about her new book, Christine said she tried to be “authentic” on Sister Wives. At the same time, though, she censored herself at times because she was trying to be a “peacemaker.” She told the publication, “I still felt like there was a huge part that I kept hidden just to be a peacemaker, to make everything work, and everything.”
Writing her memoir was “liberating” because she could actually open up about everything that was happening for her while she was on the show. “I felt like I finally got it out there, really what my heart had been holding onto for so much, and it really felt to be free,” she said.
