Christine Brown Recalls How Kody Made Her Feel ‘Insecure’ Because of the Beauty Standards He Imposed on His Wives

Christine Brown admittedly compared herself to Kody Brown’s other wives during their plural marriage. But in retrospect, she realizes that it’s because of how Kody acted. On the April 20 episode of Sister Wives, Christine said Kody expected his wives to look nice all the time (even while camping), and often compared them to one another.

She said Kody ‘put pressure’ on her to look a certain way.

Looking back on her plural marriage, it’s no wonder that Christine often felt “insecure.” On the show, Christine said Kody “put pressure on me to look good, or to make sure my hair was done, or to make sure my makeup was on.” Because she knew Kody had these high expectations and specific preferences, she was always comparing herself to his other wives.

“No wonder I was constantly wondering and constantly insecure because, as much as I was comparing, he was also comparing all the time,” she said.

Christine thinks Kody put Robyn on a ‘pedestal.’

Kody’s fourth wife, Robyn, is also the only wife who is still with him. Christine said that because Robyn was on a “pedestal,” it felt like Kody’s three other wives were “lacking” in comparison. She recalled a time when they went camping and Kody complimented Robyn’s appearance while his other wives were “sweating and slaving over the freaking food and cleaning up the campsite.”

Christine admitted that she “hated camping so bad” because of this.

“You had to always, always look nice,” Christine said, describing Kody’s expectations for his wives. “We’d go camping and Janelle and I would be sitting there busting our butts getting breakfast made, cleaning up the mess and honestly, Robyn would be doing her makeup forever and doing our kids hair and doing her hair and making sure everybody looked good.”

When comparing herself to Robyn, Christine felt like she was left with ‘scraps.’

Now that she’s married to David Woolley, Christine feels “stronger” and “more independent.” From David’s perspective, Kody’s wives would “keep score” — and Christine confirmed this.

“I felt like Robyn had a better couch,” Christine recalled. “I felt like she had better dishes and better decorations and, like, so many things.”

This made Christine wonder why she just got “scraps of time” and “scraps of stuff” from Kody. “Why am I left with all these scraps all the time?” she wondered.

Meri agreed that Kody expected his wives to look good.

However, the pressure didn’t seem to get to her as much. At the same time, Meri admitted that the way Kody acted toward Robyn impacted their friendship. Previously, Meri and Robyn were good friends — but at some point, that changed. To Kody, Robyn was “the new shiny toy,” Meri said during a sneak peak of the show. This ultimately led to “a divide” between Robyn and Meri.
