Former Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano got shot in the face during her husband’s birthday party. “So I got shot in the eye,” the Even Stevens star said in an Instagram post she shared on February 8. “It was not fun.”
Christy explained that the incident occurred while shooting clay pigeons with her husband. The activity was meant to be a gift for her husband, Brendan Rooney. However, the birthday celebration clearly didn’t go as planned, as Christy ended up being rushed to the hospital.

It was caused by ‘another party’ that was with them.
Christy explained that while she and her husband were shooting clay pigeons together, there was another group with them who “unsafely fired in the wrong direction” and shot Christy in the face. “I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” Christy wrote.
Her husband rushed her to the hospital.
Though she survived the shooting incident, she is still being monitored. “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time,” Christy wrote on Instagram. In a video, she pointed to a bullet hole beneath her eye and said, “I got shot here. It is still inside. There’s a fragment there.”

She pointed to her forehead and said ‘there’s a fragment here.’
The former child star also pointed at a wound near her scalp, saying, “We cleaned that out.” In the clip, Christy thanked first responders for helping people during their most “desperate” moments. “I’m very grateful to first responders as a whole,” she said. “I mean, they’re just the most amazing superheroes to take care of us at our most desperate times.”
She also thanked medical staff at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas, the hospital she went to for treatment.
Pointing at her eye, which still had blood in it, Christy said, ‘This was really bad tonight.’
“But I’ve got to say, I got shot in the face. And live to tell the tale,” she continued, taking a deep breath and exhaling. “Be grateful for every day.” In the caption, she reminded her followers that “life can change in an instant.”
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,” she wrote. “I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can.”
Christy and her husband are parents to Isabella Victoria, 8, and Sophia Elizabeth, 5.
‘I wouldn’t know what to do without you,’ her husband responded.
Commenting on his wife’s Instagram post, Brendan praised his wife for being “the bravest, toughest, most stoic and bad— woman I have ever met.”
“I am so thankful you are alive,” he wrote. “I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.”
