What should have been a cute moment from Coco Austin's daughter Chanel's big day quickly turned into a hotbed of criticism for the celeb mom. Coco took to social media to post a brief clip of her then-6-year-old taking a bath, but it wasn't her decision to share the sudsy moment with fans that rankled her critics. Instead, it was actually about where Chanel was taking her bath.
Coco shared the clip on TikTok.
The proud mama showed off some behind-the-scenes prep for the Patricia Fields fashion show with her followers. In the short video, both Coco and Chanel can be seen getting glammed before heading out the door.
"Chanel's First Fashion as a Prospector and the hour before getting ready," she wrote.
The clip, which was not even three minutes long, was a montage from the day's events.
It's clear Coco wanted to document Chanel's first trip to New York Fashion Week for herself and her fans, and she started with the moment she and the little girl started getting ready for the big show.
The clip opened with Chanel sitting in the sink of Coco and Ice-T's massive kitchen and followed along as they picked out their outfits and got ready. However, it doesn't seem like Coco's critics watched past that first part.
People quickly took to the comments to call out Coco over the bath routine.
Although fan reaction was mostly positive on TikTok, when Coco reshared the video to her Instagram the haters came out of the woodwork.
"Y'all still treating her like an infant," one person wrote alongside a shocked face emoji.
Another person shared that even though she hoped Chanel had fun at the show, she had some concerns about the girl's comfort and safety. "She's too old to be in the sink," the commenter wrote. "That was really awkward to see."
A third person had a very serious question about whether this practice was typical for Americans. "I'm sure there is some sort of valid reason, but I'm finding it difficult not to see how unhygienic that is," the person wrote.
This isn't the first time Coco has faced backlash over her parenting choices.
People were upset when Coco shared a photo of herself and Ice-T as they walked around on vacation. The pair were posing next to Chanel, who was obviously over it and had taken a load off by sitting in a stroller. Critics chided Coco for babying her daughter, telling her Chanel was just too old for such things.
Hopefully the hate didn't steal the joy from Coco and Chanel's big day.
We've got to imagine that Coco is so used to negativity over her parenting decisions by now that she may not have taken any of the comments to heart.
Hopefully she only focused on all of the people who talked about what a great mom she was for taking such good care of her little one — and those who admitted they were actually just jealous she had a sink large enough to accommodate a quick bath. (OK, it's us. We're the ones jealous of the size of that sink.)
