Collin Gosselin is estranged from most of his siblings and his mom, Kate Gosselin. Kate has justified her distance from her son by claiming that he is “a very troubled young man” who has exhibited “unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies.” On several occasions, Collin has shared his side of the story, but it sounds like he plans on sharing more details about his childhood, his family, and his mom’s alleged abuse in an upcoming memoir.
Collin recently revealed that he’d like to write a book.
During an interview with The U.S. Sun, Collin, now 21, said he has “wanted to write a book for a long time.” Now, he’s moving toward making that dream a reality, as he is currently “working with a lady” who is helping put his story together for a book. “Going over these events and putting them on paper and drafting them is almost therapeutic in a way,” he revealed.
He’s still working out the details, but he generally knows what he wants to include.
Though the memoir seems to still be in its early stages, Collin revealed that it will be written from a “first-person perspective” and will feel personal and emotional in tone. During the recent interview, Collin recalled the time he spent 22 months in an inpatient mental health facility as a child. “I remember so many details from it,” he said. “I just remember life experiences in general. Everything from TV to institution to family members.”
He also plans to write about his mom’s alleged abuse and include details that he has not shared publicly before. “I am going to release everything so that [my siblings] at least have the proof to build their own perspective,” he explained.
Collin previously accused Kate of abuse.
In 2024, in a separate interview with The U.S. Sun, Collin alleged that even before his estrangement from his siblings, he “never really had a relationship” with them because his mom kept him “isolated” from his brothers and sisters. The Jon and Kate Plus 8 alum went on to claim that his mom “had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement” when he was eight or nine years old. “She had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me,” he alleged.
He said that he “never really went outside” as a kid and experienced “containment” in his own home before being sent to a behavioral health facility at age 11.
In a controversial statement, Kate defended her decisions.
Since Collin has spoken to the media about his experiences on several occasions, Kate decided to release a statement in 2023 to explain her side of the story. In her statement (shared via Instagram), she wrote, “My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers, and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment. Fast forward to the present day, and following Jon’s removal of Collin from treatment, my son’s unpredictable and violent behaviors have sadly continued regularly towards Jon, Hannah, and others around him.”
Though some people defended Kate at the time, others accused Kate of “abandoning” one of her children and not providing sufficient support. “As a mother, I would never put my child’s personal business on social media to prove a point. I definitely don’t think posting this is going to help the situation because now you are putting the world against him. Shame on you, mom,” one critic wrote.
