Congresswoman Sparks Rumors About Erika Kirk Losing Custody of Her Kids

Although people generally agree that everyone grieves differently, the way Erika Kirk has been acting in the aftermath of her husband’s death has sparked a lot of backlash. As Erika continues to go to events and participate in interviews, people have also questioned her parenting. On social media, critics have said Erika seems to be “everywhere but with her kids.” So, when Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna appeared on a podcast and said Erika “lost her kids,” people took that to mean that Erika lost custody of her children. And to be fair, how else would you interpret a comment like that?

Erika and Charlie welcomed two children.

They welcomed a daughter in 2022 and their son in 2024. During a press conference after Charlie’s death, Erika touched on how she spoke to their three-year-old daughter about it. “What do you tell a three-year-old? She’s three,” she said, per People. “I said, ‘Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus, so he can afford your blueberry budget.'”

During a conversation with Megyn Kelly, Erika revealed that she and her late husband had wanted to have four kids. “I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered,” she told Megyn. “I was like, ‘Oh goodness, that would be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.'”

When Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said Erika ‘lost her kids,’ people were confused.

It didn’t take long for rumors to start spreading on social media. In one post on X, someone wrote, “ERIKA KIRK LOST CUSTODY OF HER KIDS. While Erika Kirk was busy celebrating her husband’s death, custody of her children were transferred to Charlie Kirk’s parents.” The rumor likely came from the suspicious comment Anna made on the PBD podcast with Patrick Bet-David.

While discussing Erika Kirk conspiracy theories, Anna said, “When I see that, it’s like, you’re already victimizing the victim, if that makes sense. Because at the end of the day, she did lose her husband, she lost her kids. Like, I was just with her at the White House, and she’s, you know — that’s anyone — if that happened to your wife, my husband — like, it’s devastating.”

Given that Anna said she recently saw Erika, some people trusted what she said about her.

But Anna later said she misspoke.

According to the congresswoman herself, she didn’t actually mean to say that Erika lost her kids. When someone called Anna out on X, she responded directly. “Hey @realannapaulina what did you mean by Erika Kirk ‘lost her kids’ … did you learn that when you met her at the White House? How did she lose her kids?” the X user questioned.

Anna responded with, “To clarify: I meant to say the kids lost their dad* PBD podcast is not edited so it was not changed or taken out.” Fair enough, but that sounds very different from what she actually said. And given what people have already been saying about Erika, it’s a pretty awkward and significant mistake to make. In reality, though, there’s no indication that Erika has actually lost custody of her kids.
