I can’t be the only one wondering what small fortune Melania Trump is spending on her hat collection. At this point, it seems like she has an oversized hat to hide behind at every social event where she may not be 100 percent there for husband Donald Trump.
And, after a clip of her outfit choice went viral following their trip to England in September 2025 to see the Royal Family, people are once again talking about Melania’s outfit choices.
In a clip from the visit that was posted on TikTok, one user commented that Melania is “in a constant state of mourning since her wedding day,” judging by her outfits. They are typically black or dark in color, with very little detail other than, of course, a hat as an accessory.
Others joked that Melania just doesn’t want to be seen with Trump. But really, many want to know the deal with the hats, because come on.

When Trump and Melania visited England, clips of the week’s events quickly went viral on social media. In one photo that was shared on TikTok, Trump, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla, and Melania stand in a line in what is presumably Buckingham Palace.
Melania looks incredibly out of place in a drab dark outfit and hat covering her entire face, next to the other three, who are each in some shade of blue. Maybe she didn’t get the memo about what to wear?
OK, to be fair, Melania has shown her fashionista side over the years and she was once a high-paid model. But after Trump was sworn in for his second term as president, her fashion has reflected a darker side. Literally.
Most of her outfits are dark, or just black, and she often has a larger-than-life hat. She even donned one at Trump’s January 2025 inauguration that went viral with tons of memes.
According to some, Melania’s outfit choices are in response to her station in life and her role as Trump’s wife.
“She does NOT want to be seen with this man,” a user commented on the TikTok post about Melania’s outfit during the England trip.
Another person wrote, “She does not even want to be seen with that man. She hides her entire face now.”
“She doesn’t want to appear in the future history book pictures,” someone else commented.

The clip also features sound from an old Anderson Cooper interview where he spoke to Melania and the rest of the family. The sound has Anderson speaking to Trump’s kids, but he appears to be interrupted by Melania suddenly saying, “Hello.”
At this point, the edited clip is a meme itself, but the audio has been used time and again on social media, often to poke fun at Melania.
To be fair, elsewhere during the England visit, Melania wore a bright yellow dress and ditched one of her now signature wide-brimmed hats. But every time she is shown with a drab outfit and a hat that covers her entire face, you’re going to catch tons of people on the internet calling her out and wondering if it’s a silent cry of protest at her role by Trump’s side.
