The one thing that helps some parents get through a dozen episodes of their kid’s favorite show is to find something in it to grab their own attention. That’s not really hard to do with Blippi, since it’s a palatable educational show on its own. But when one dad shared on TikTok that he spotted a funny reference for adults in a Blippi episode, it brought a whole other level of fun for the parents who got the reference.
Adult references in cartoons or shows geared toward kids is nothing new. In fact, animated series of the 90s were known for their Easter eggs meant for parents from time to time. With shows like Blippi, it’s much more abstract. You may see one of the adult employees at a museum in the background, unsure of how to react to Blippi’s childlike delight at things. Or, you see an episode where Blippi even seems caught off guard with something he sees. But at the end of the day, it’s all in the name of keeping everyone’s attention, even parents.
The reference for adults in ‘Blippi’ is tied to an obscure comedy movie.

In the TikTok video, the dad, whose name is Buzz, is watching an episode of Blippi when he realizes that Blippi took a scene directly out of the Andy Samberg comedy Hot Rod. In the Blippi episode, everyone’s favorite YouTube teacher calls upon the powers of an eagle, fox, bottle-nosed dolphin, octopus, and house cat in order to participate in skateboarding.
The TikTok then shows the exact same thing from Hot Rod, where Rod, an amateur stuntman, calls upon those same exact animals to aid him in a stunt jump. This would be a wild coincidence, if Blippi didn’t also show pictures of the animals in the same way they’re shown in the Hot Rod movie. And not one parent is mad about that.
“Homeboy has a lot of good movie references for adults,” someone commented on the TikTok video. “Blippi is the goat.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “This caught me so off guard when I made the same discovery. My family had no idea why I got so excited.”
According to parents who know a thing or two about Blippi and commented on the TikTok video, there are other times where Blippi has referenced things only grownups might understand. One user said that Blippi has referenced a scene from the Austin Powers movie. He has also, apparently, referenced the band Smashing Pumpkins and the rap group the Wu-Tang Clan.
Someone else wrote that, at this point, they are convinced that the original Blippi videos were meant to be parodies of other YouTube educational content and just blew up. Given that there are other references for adults sprinkled into other Blippi videos, at least according to other parents, that isn’t too wild of a theory about Blippi.
