Rumors that David Beckham had an affair with his former assistant more than 20 years ago are coming back to haunt him. During an appearance on 60 Minutes Australia that aired on Sunday, Rebecca Loos doubled down on her claims she and David had a secret relationship in the early 2000s, asserting that she’s been telling the truth the whole time, no matter what the former soccer star has said.
Rebecca talked about what it was like going ‘up against’ Victoria and David.
Rebecca, a former model who began working with David in 2003, has long claimed that they had a four-month affair during that time – and during his marriage to Victoria Beckham. As People reported, she took her claims public just one year later.
Even today, Rebecca isn’t backing down, and during her 60 Minutes Australia interview, she reasserted that she has always “stuck to the truth.”
“In my opinion, it was a very brave thing to do to go up against them,” she said. “Why? Because I’m going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media who have all the money in the world for the best PR, the best lawyers. And all I had on my side was the truth.”
During their reported affair, Rebecca claimed that David ‘played’ her.
“I fell hook, line and sinker for every single cliché line he fed me,” Rebecca said on the show. “And then two weeks later we were at Ronaldo’s birthday party and he’s off with this beautiful model. And I was like, ‘Uh.’ That was a hard night for me. I was like, ‘Uh, I don’t understand.’ And realizations started to hit that I’d been massively played.”
She went on to admit that the experience of speaking out has been “traumatic” for her.
“I think all of that impacted my mental health in a way that it was quite traumatic but I didn’t admit to it being traumatic because I wanted to be brave and strong,” Rebecca said. “But some of it seeped through and got to me and that has taken time to recover from.”
David and Victoria addressed the rumors in their Netflix docuseries.
In the 2023 Netflix docuseries Beckham, Victoria and David opened up about the “hardest” period of their marriage. Although they didn’t mention Rebecca specifically, David did mention that there were “horrible stories” about him that led him to feel “physically sick” on a daily basis.
“It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage,” he said in the series. “Every time that we woke up we felt that there was something else. I think we both felt at the time that we were, not losing each other, but drowning.”
He has always maintained the affair never happened.
When Rebecca first lobbed the affair accusations at David, he released a statement denying her claims.
“During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life,” David’s 2004 statement read, according to People. “What appeared this morning is just one further example. The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change this.”
