Donald Trump Responds to Viral Death Rumors After Week-Long Disappearance

After several days of no public appearances, some people wondered if President Donald Trump had died. The death rumors started spreading across social media, and on Friday, August 29, “Trump Is Dead” and “Where Is Trump?” were trending on X, per People. Though the rumors seemed to be everywhere and his son Eric addressed them, Trump is acting like he hadn’t heard about the speculation at all.

Eric responded to the rumors on social media.

As people continued to wonder where the elder Trump was and speculate about whether or not he had died, Eric took to X to slam those who were spreading the rumors. On August 31, Eric responded to a post that quoted his father as saying, “Never felt better in my life.” In response to the post, Eric wrote, “The radical left is so sick and twisted…”

Eric was quoting his father’s August 31 Truth Social post, which read, “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE. Also, DC IS A CRIME FREE ZONE! President DJT.” In spite of this, rumors about Trump’s health continued to circulate.

Though his son appeared to address the death rumors, Donald Trump said he hadn’t heard of them.

On Tuesday, September 2, Trump held his first press conference in a week. During the press conference, a reporter asked the president about whether or not he knew about the death rumors. “No,” he said, per People. “Really? I didn’t see that.”

Trump said he knew people were concerned about his health and wellbeing, but he didn’t realize the rumors had escalated. “That’s pretty serious stuff,” he said. “I knew they were saying, like, ‘Is he okay? How’s he feeling?’ … I had heard that, but I didn’t hear that to that extent.”

Trump went on to say that he had a “very active” weekend. He dismissed the death rumors as “fake news.”

“You know, I have heard it’s sort of crazy, but last week, I did numerous news conferences, all successful…” he continued, per the Telegraph. “And then I didn’t do any for two days, and they said there must be something wrong with him. Biden wouldn’t do them for months.”

The death rumors came after people noticed a large bruise on Trump’s hand.

Even prior to the weekend, people on social media had started talking about the president’s health after seeing photos that showed bruising on his hands. On August 22, bruising on Trump’s hand appeared to be covered up with makeup. Then, on Monday, August 25, he didn’t cover his hand with concealer or foundation, revealing a large bruise.
