Kim Kardashian is currently in a difficult position, and according to TV psychologist Dr. Phil, not taking action could have serious consequences. The Skims founder, 44, shares four children with Kanye West. Recently, in addition to making headlines due to antisemitism and sexism, Ye released a song featuring his 11-year-old daughter, North, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. He also reportedly had plans to meet with suspected traffickers Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate while North was present.
Dr. Phil said Kim’s situation is ‘difficult’ but ‘sadly not unusual.’
“Obviously, the best situation for any child is to have a relationship with both parents if those parents are healthy,” Dr. Phil said on TMZ’s 2 Angry Men podcast. Unfortunately, “that’s not always the case” though. He went on to explain that if one parent isn’t fit to be a good parent to their children and the other parent knows this but doesn’t intervene, this could be considered “negligence.”
Could Kim lose custody of her kids if she does nothing?
According to Dr. Phil, it’s “absolutely a possibility.” He explained that Kim and Ye’s wealth wouldn’t necessarily protect them in this situation.
“What we don’t want is for these children to wind up in foster care because that system is broken,” he said on the podcast. “If you think, ‘Well, with this kind of money, they’re not gonna wind up in foster care,’ well, that’s wrong.”
At the same time, he did add that if this were to happen, the kids would likely be placed with family members. “If the [Department of Children and Families] gets involved and thinks one parent isn’t reacting while the other is unstable, they will take them,” he said. “Now, they’re likely to put them with a family member rather than strangers, but you don’t want these children hung out to dry.”
Dr. Phil added that while Ye’s behavior is certainly “troubling,” he sees Kim as “intelligent” and a “serious parent.”
Kim is reportedly trying to protect her kids.
Recently, Kim reportedly cut North’s visit with her father short when she learned that the Tate brothers would be there. TMZ previously reported that Kim tried to stop Ye from releasing the song featuring both their daughter and Diddy, who is in jail awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Though the former couple reportedly reached an agreement, Ye “chose to totally ignore” it, a source told In Touch Weekly.
The insider added that “it’s her responsibility to protect the kids at all costs,” so of course, right now she’s getting a lot of advice to fight for custody of their children.
In February, a source alleged that Kim has been quiet because she’s ‘afraid.’
While Ye’s recent behavior has obviously “crossed a line,” a U.S. Sun source claimed that Kim has been cautious in her approach because she’s trying to protect her kids. She reportedly “can’t stop worrying about what [Ye] might do or say next.” At the same time, “she’s bound and determined to protect [her children] no matter what.”
