Drew Barrymore Hits Back at Tabloid Claims That She Wishes Her Mother Was Dead

Actress Drew Barrymore is calling out tabloids over headlines claiming that she wishes her mother would hurry up and die already. The mother of two posted a scathing video to her Instagram, calling the tabloids out for twisting her words and making it seem like she wanted anything other than the best for her mom.

Drew recently spoke candidly about her relationship with her mother.

During an interview with Vulture, Drew opened up a bit about her complex relationship with her mother, Jaid Barrymore.

"All their moms are gone, and my mom's not," she told the interviewer at one point after discussing some other famous friends who also had traumatic childhoods. "And I'm like, Well, I don't have that luxury."

She said she 'cannot wait' to be able to finally get closure.

Later Drew clarified her words, explaining how she wished her mother no ill will.

"I don't want to live in a state where I wish someone to be gone sooner than they're meant to be so I can grow," she said. "I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to f—ing grow in spite of her being on this planet."

Unfortunately for Drew, the tabloids ran with the story.

If you've seen headlines recently claiming that Drew wishes her mother was dead, you're not the only one — and Drew is outraged over the way her words have been twisted.

"You know what? To all you tabloids out there, you have been f—ing with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth," she said in a heated Instagram video on Monday.

She went on to blast them for taking something so vulnerable and turning it into something else entirely.

She called her relationship with her mother 'difficult' and 'painful.'

Because of how tumultuous things were between them — Drew left home at the age of 14 — she said it's hard to really find her footing while her mother is still alive.

"And that for those of us who have to figure that out in real time, cannot wait as in they cannot wait for the time — not that the parent is dead."
