We've been following along with the Duggar family for a long time on reality TV and social media, and that means we've seen them change a lot over the years. From the earliest days of 19 Kids & Counting on TLC — where the daughters could often be seen wearing matching homemade dresses — to now, so much has changed, and it's not all because they've grown up, either. These ladies are coming more and more into their own, and that means some major hair changes have happened as well.
From Jinger Duggar's decision to go blonde after officially becoming a California girl to Jill Duggar's massive chop of the long hair we thought she'd have forever, the Duggar women have been known to switch it up a time or two, and usually, these changes are for the better.
Here are the times the Duggars have made big changes to their hair that totally paid off — including the rare occasion when Michelle adjusted her signature look for a vacation away with Jim Bob. And is it just us, or should Joy-Anna have bangs forever?!
Joy-Anna's Old Look
Most of the time, Joy can be seen with her hair back in a ponytail or braid — not that we blame her, because she's got two very young kiddos at home, and keeping her hair out of her face has gotta be a must. When her hair is down, it's usually straight, but Joy doesn't look like this anymore!
Joy's Curls
Very rarely, when Joy gets all dressed up, she'll curl her hair — and she looks amazing every time! In this family photo shoot, she pulled out all the stops, and it was definitely worth it. The curly look definitely works for this lady. She should try it more often!
Joy's Bangs
For someone who tends to keep her hair pulled back, we definitely did a double take when Joy got a haircut that involved bangs for a fresh look in 2021! And even though her hair does look darker here, Gideon and Evelyn's mom swears that she's never dyed it before.
Jinger's Old Look
For most of the time we've known Jinger, she's had long, dark brunette hair that matches the color of many of her sisters' — and that's the way it stayed as an adult, even when she and Jeremy got married and had their first baby. But then, she made a major change.
Jinger's Balayage
Right after Jinger and Jeremy made the big move to Los Angeles, Jinger got a blonde balayage, and it was one of the most dramatic Duggar transformations we've ever seen! It brightened up her look so much, and Jinger seemed to love it, even when it settled into more of a highlighted look.
Jinger's Short Blonde Curls
In 2020, Jinger took her blonde to the max, transitioning over fully from the (kinda) dark side. She also chopped off a good bit of her length, and we practically wouldn't recognize her as the little girl we saw grow up on 19 Kids & Counting!
Jill's Old Hair
Until not too long ago, Jill had always had extremely long hair — she was probably tied with Jessa for the longest hair in the family! It was beautiful, but the more she broke away from the Duggars, the more changes she started making, and that ended up including her long brown locks.
Jill's Chop
At the end of 2019, Jill decided to go for it and got her hair professionally cut at a salon — yet another act of rebellion! She looked amazing with shorter hair, and it was so healthy and shiny. Such a good inspiration photo for a medium-long cut.
Jessa's Usual Look
As a mom of three (soon to be four) very busy kids, it makes total sense that we often see Jessa with her hair up in a messy bun or flying totally free and naturally dried. But once in a while, she decides to get fancy, and the results are always stunning.
Jessa's Curls
Jessa's hair looks so amazing when she curls it that she had to make a tutorial to show people how she does it, so that's how we know it's legit! When she takes the time to curl her hair, it's major hair goals — but in our opinion, she looks amazing even when she goes for a more natural look.
Jana's Old Look
For as long as we can remember, Jana's hair has always been dark, long, and parted to the side — it's kind of her signature look. Sometimes she curls it, sometimes she leaves it straight, but that's generally what it looks like, and it works for her.
Jana's Middle Part
Looks like Jana might have caught wind that side parts are out! Lately, Jana's been spotted with a far trendier middle part, and we've gotta admit, she looks good either way — and not everyone can pull off a middle part. We're also loving this sleeker, more polished style on her in general.
Anna's Usual Look
Anna's known for her darker brown hair, and she doesn't usually change it up much, other than a little straightening or curling, depending on the occasion. And even though she didn't mention it, fans realized that not too long ago, it seemed as if she had a bit of a makeover.
Anna's Highlights
Sometime over the past year or so, Anna jazzed up her look with what appear to be highlights, and they definitely look good on her. Adding a little curl doesn't hurt, either, though we have no idea where she gets the time to do her hair while being a mom to six kids!
Kendra's Usual Look
Ever since Kendra was first introduced when she and Joe started courting, she's always sported her natural blonde hair, and like the other women in her family, she kept it long and straight with occasional curls. But then, she decided to switch things up.
Kendra's Sassier Hairstyle
In this photo, not only did Kendra get a haircut, but she also curled her hair, and it looks gorgeous. It also instantly made her look older, even though we're pretty sure she and the rest of her family drink from the fountain of youth.
Michelle's Signature Look
Michelle has always, more or less, stuck to the same cut, color, and style. Going all the way back to the earliest days of the show, she's always had long brown hair embraced her natural curls, and had bangs … but once in a while, she does make a change.
Michelle's Straight Hair
Guess a trip to Missouri with Jim Bob had Michelle wanting to change her hair routine. In this photo, we can see her hair has been straightened, which is a pretty look on her. She should try to style it this way more often!
