What to Know
If there’s one thing that Dwayne Johnson is known for, outside of his role as Maui in the Moana movies and his former WWE persona The Rock, it’s his bald head. At some point in his long career in the entertainment world, he gave up on his closely shaved head and succumbed to the baldness that he kept as his now signature look.
So, uh, why is he selling shampoo? It’s one of the men’s personal car items in his brand, Papatui. And after a woman on TikTok, Katy, saw an ad for Johnson’s shampoo in the store, she made a video about it as a joke. Then, Johnson stitched her video with his own and delivered a response that only The Rock could give.
Dwayne Johnson made a joke about it in full ‘Moana’ costume.

In Katy’s TikTok, she tells the camera, “Don’t give up on your dreams. The Rock is selling shampoo and conditioner and he’s bald.” I mean, she’s not wrong. But the best part about it was that Johnson then stitched her video with a response for the shampoo and conditioner products as part of his brand.
He wrote in the caption of a video of himself in full Maui costume (and hair), “OK this made me belly laugh… HARD. And hey, sometimes a Demigod’s radiant and ravishing hair needs shampoo/conditioner.”
Then, he followed it up with an even bigger response. He sent her some products from his brand and a video message about her video in character as Maui and said that her video made Johnson “belly laugh,” but it made Maui “proud.” He then says in his message to her that he wants to invite her and her family to the Hollywood premiere of the live action Moana movie. OK, talk about wholesome.
People made jokes about the shampoo working for Dwayne Johnson in a wig.
@therock YO KATY ~ YOU’RE WELCOOOOME ~ MAUI 🪝🎶 😉 I belly laughed so damn hard when I saw Katy’s (@Happyyellowco) viral video she made while shopping at @target about @Papatui selling shampoo and conditioner, yet the founder has no hair 👩🏽🦲🙋🏽♂️😂 But when that trickster & demigod Maui himself saw Katy’s video – he decided to surprise Katy and her family with a MAUI SIZED gift… Flying Katy & family out to Los Angeles for the massive premiere of Live-Action Moana from the iconic Hollywood Bowl! ✈️ 🏟️ 🎬 🥂 Oh yeah one more thing…. After Katy posted her original video, users commented on it to share how funny it was to them that Johnson was selling haircare products despite being bald for a pretty long time. Of course, it makes sense for him to add that to his line since his products aren’t all about hair, but her joke was pretty well-received.
“Kevin Hart is laughing at this joke right now,” one user commented on Katy’s original video.
“The Rock ain’t perfect but dang does he knows how to relate with other people and market himself and I love it,” another user wrote on Johnson’s video.
It turns out, the woman’s husband is also bald.

As if the story wasn’t silly enough, Katy says in one of the videos that her husband “is gonna be so excited” to get the Papatui that Johnson sent them. When her family joins her in the video, we see that her husband, like Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, is totally bald.
“The joke came from home,” someone wrote, about Katy’s bald joke that started the whole thing.
“I was thinking her husband will use the hair products but he is also bald,” another TikTok user commented.
It’s a good thing that Johnson’s Papatui brand also offers body wash, deodorant, and a skincare routine made for men. Especially since Johnson sent Katy and her family a few crates of products.
