People are pretty weirded out by a clip that shows Elon Musk bonding with Kanye West. The “awkward” interaction between the rapper and the Tesla CEO happened after a Ye show in Miami, and is included in In Whose Name?, a soon-to-be released documentary about Ye’s life.
At the beginning of an exclusive clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter, the two men appear to talk backstage after Ye’s performance. Complimenting the rapper, Elon says, “Thanks for inviting me, this was an amazing experience. A rare experience.” Ye nods in agreement. Then, Elon adds, “I didn’t know what to expect, this was an amazing production.”
They then go into ‘an idea of a bedroom.’

In the next part of the clip, Ye and Elon walk into a space that Ye describes as “an idea of a bedroom.” “This is the bed?” Elon asks. Ye tells him that it is, and they eventually both lie down together before starting to talk about their relationship problems.
“So are you and Kim [Kardashian] like off and on or something?” Elon asks Ye. “Or, I don’t know, it’s hard to tell.” Ye doesn’t answer.
Elon then talks about his relationship with Grimes.
The next scene shows Elon and Ye standing again as Elon starts to talk about his relationship with Grimes, the Canadian musician he shares three children with. “Claire and I, Grimes,” Elon starts. “We’re sort of … you know, in the same text stream, she’s like, ‘I love you.’ And then, like, you know, a day later, like, ‘I hate you.’”
After opening up about this, Elon laughs. Ye then asks him, “And what do you do?” Elon responds with, “You probably know exactly. I’m like, ‘Whoa, OK.’ Yeah. Exactly.”
Ye tells Elon that he doesn’t have any advice.
Though Ye did not elaborate on his relationship with his ex-wife during this particular clip, he made it clear that he couldn’t help Elon deal with this situation. “I don’t have answers,” Ye tells Elon. “Answers to everything except for that.”
Reacting to the clip on X, people couldn’t get over how “awkward” the whole thing felt. “Imagine being too weird even for Kanye,” one person joked. Another person wrote, “I’ve never cringed this hard in my life.”
Some people couldn’t believe that the interaction actually happened. “This can’t be real,” someone wrote on X.
Lots of Elon’s relationship drama has recently come to light.
In February 2025, Elon took his son X Æ A-Xii to a White House Oval Office press conference. He did not appear to tell Grimes, who is X’s mom, about this. She seemed to learn about it when a fan reached out to her on social media. In response, Grimes wrote, “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
That same month, Grimes took to social media to beg Elon to respond during their child’s “medical crisis.”
“Plz respond about our child’s medical crisis,” she wrote. “I am sorry to do this publicly, but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation. This requires immediate attention. If you don’t want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can so that we can move forward solving this. This is urgent, Elon.”
