Former ‘Bachelorette’ Emily Maynard Shares a Health Update on Son With Down Syndrome

Former Bachelorette star Emily Maynard Johnson took to social media to share another update on her 7-month-old son, Jones West, following his latest surgery.

Her little guy is doing well!

Emily took to Instagram on April 27 to share an update on Jones in her Instagram Stories.

Sharing a photo of Jones smiling while wearing a hospital gown, Emily let everyone know that her son is doing well following his latest surgery.

'I love him so much,' she wrote on the photo.

Continuing the update, Emily also shared why her son was in the hospital.

"And for those who have asked, he had an ostomy reversal and it went great."

Jones looked to be happy while cuddled into the blankets at the hospital with a big, fuzzy teddy bear on his lap.

The toy company recently released its first Barbie with Down syndrome, and Emily was thrilled to see that and to have one.

"I may be new to this community, but it makes my heart so happy to see giant companies like @barbie including Down syndrome in their lineup," she wrote.

"Nola Belle was clearly just thrilled to get a new Barbie," she said, adding a laughing emoji.

Emily and her husband, Tyler Johnson, learned of their son’s Down syndrome diagnosis when he was born.

Although some parents undergo screening during pregnancy so they’re prepared for a diagnosis of Down syndrome, Emily and Tyler previously shared it was a total surprise.

"It was not on my radar at all. And I refused to believe it. I just wanted to hold him and for everything to be OK," she previously said.

Jones was also born with a rare colon abnormality that required a month-long stay in the NICU.

Thankfully, it sounds like Jones is doing fine.

Emily previously spoke about how her son has integrated into her family, which includes her four other children — Gatlin, 5; Gibson, 6; Jennings, 7; and Ricki, 17 — saying he "just folded into all the other craziness."

As for Jones, Emily shared that he’s a really easy baby. "He's so chill. He puts up with all my other kids."

"I'm still learning about Down syndrome, but I'm trying to also just experience Jones as Jones and not as different than any of the other kids," she shared.

"I have no expectations. He's perfect and everything is going to be great."
