Critics Slam Farrah Abraham for Letting Teen Daughter Get Large Tattoo

Some critics suggest that Farrah Abraham needs to stop trying to be “the cool mom” after she took her teen daughter to get a tattoo. Though some people praised the 16 and Pregnant alum for letting her daughter express herself, others insisted that Farrah’s daughter, Sophia, is too young to make that kind of decision and might regret it when she’s older. Based on Farrah and Sophia’s posts about the new tattoo, Farrah was supportive throughout the process.

But in one controversial video, Farrah and Sophia made it look like Sophia was actually about to announce a pregnancy at age 16. Instead, she simply showed off the new tattoo.

In the video, Sophia held her belly like she might be pregnant.

The mom and daughter duo wrote “we have a surprise for you guys …” and in case what they were alluding to was unclear, they added the pregnant woman emoji. They also used the hashtag “#pregnant.” But when Sophia lifted her shirt up, she unveiled a new bat tattoo instead. “i got my first tattoo!!” the video read.

In a separate post, Sophia tagged her tattoo artist and wrote, “thank you so much @nick_sl_art for doing my first tattoo! i love my bats sm.”

Farrah also posted about the milestone, sharing some video footage of the tattooing process and captioning it with, “This is so surreal @sophialabraham @nick_sl_art First #tatoo memory!”

Clearly, Farrah was very supportive — which some people had an issue with.

“Permanent decisions shouldn’t be made until you’re an adult,” one critic responded. Several critics insisted that Farrah needs to be “stricter” as a parent and learn to say no sometimes. They suggested that Sophia could regret the tattoo when she’s older.

“If my parents let me get a tattoo at 16 I would have a hello kitty tramp stamp,” someone else wrote. “Thank goodness they parented haha.”

A third critic wrote, “Why can’t today’s mothers just say NO to their kids?”

Some of the critics were a bit more understanding and could get where Farrah was coming from, but they still didn’t agree with the decision. Acknowledging that they might be “old school,” a fourth critic said, “I understand a child being free to do whatever they want and express themselves but there’s always a time when things should be done. At that age is too young no matter if the parent approves it. Rules need to be set …”

But others praised Farrah for accepting her daughter for who she is.

Farrah and Sophia received a lot of negative comments, some of which were more hurtful than others. But not everyone was judging Farrah’s parenting. In fact, some people actually appreciated how accepting she seems to be.

“I love that you are letting her be herself, [you’re] a fantastic mom and so supportive of her,” one fan wrote. Addressing Farrah directly, another fan added, “I love how she’s literally completely opposite from you and you don’t treat her any different because of it.”

And while several people said they also got tattoos at a young age and ended up regretting them, others had the opposite experience. “I was 16 when my parents got me my first tattoos, I’m so grateful my parents supported who I am and what I loved from a young age,” a third fan commented.
