Excited fans who were looking forward to seeing Kelly Clarkson make her Las Vegas residency debut earlier this month are facing some major disappointment instead. Just 10 minutes before the doors were about to open to fans at Caesar’s Palace, Kelly announced that the opening show (and the one scheduled to take place the following night) had both been canceled. Now, an inside source is saying that her staff was just as “blindsided” by the cancellation as her fans were.
Kelly announced the shows were canceled in a social media post.
Just before the show was set to begin July 4, Kelly shared a post on Instagram, revealing that rehearsals had “taken a toll” on her voice to the point that she wasn’t able to perform.
“I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve,” she wrote. “The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
Her crew reportedly found out when the fans did.
According to what a source told The Sun, the crew working on the show was reportedly kept “completely in the dark” about the cancellation, so it was pretty shocking to them when they saw Kelly’s message on Instagram.
“They woke up Friday expecting a normal day of work and began their day like always,” said the insider. “It wasn’t until hours into the work day everyone was told the news. A lot of the crew found out on social media which is utterly disrespectful.
The source added, “She’s definitely lost the respect and confidence of a lot of her workers.”
Fans at the venue were devastated.
The insider went on to say that fans were already waiting at the venue, and some of them were so upset to find out the concert had been canceled that they “burst into tears.”
“Fans crying about wasting thousands of dollars, fans who flew from outside of the country to see Kelly for the first time,” the source continued. “She doesn’t realize the depth of how much she let people down and most of them were crying they can’t afford to come back another weekend.”
Kelly’s recent choices are reportedly giving her staff ‘whiplash.’
This isn’t the only last minute change that Kelly has made recently. She’s also been a bit MIA from The Kelly Clarkson Show in recent months, and one of her staffers told the Daily Mail that it’s causing those who work from her to believe she’s become “flaky.”
“She’s all in on the talk show, then she’s not, then she is again. She’s performing in Vegas, now she’s not. It’s her voice. It’s personal issues,” the staffer shared, adding that Kelly is now “hard to do business with.”
