Former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden is being accused of domestic assault by his wife, Catherine Blair Bowman, who claims he attacked her after she confronted him about “sexting teenage girls.” Now, she’s seeking a restraining order against her estranged husband, and she says that the events that allegedly transpired have left her “terrified” of him.
Catherine claimed that Mickey assaulted her on July 21.
According to court documents obtained by People, Catherine claimed she received a message from a teenage girl telling her that she’d been in contact with Mickey.
“I was extremely hurt and disturbed. I needed to understand what was going on between them,” Catherine said in the documents. “When he denied it, I asked him to hand me his phone. He would not hand me his phone, but I could see that he was quickly deleting the evidence from his phone.”
Mickey reportedly then became ‘enraged.’
“He put both his arms around my body around my abdomen and arms to restrain me,” she said. “He then slammed my body against the marble kitchen counter. I felt pain in my hip and waist area. He shoved me to the ground and was out of his mind. I landed on my knees. He kept screaming for me to give him the phone. He appeared literally insane to me. I had never seen such uncontrollable anger and a completely different person.”
This wasn’t the only incident of assault that Catherine mentioned in her documents, claiming that on May 14, “he physically abused me. Extreme emotional harm. I’m now terrified of him.”
Mickey reportedly tried to explain away the text messages.
Screenshotted text messages are included in the restraining order paperwork, including one from Mickey to Catherine where he called the sexting he engaged in “a private and fake harmless fantasy.”
“I am beyond sorry for my actions and for engaging in any form of expression of those impulses ..it’s all completely unacceptable,” he wrote in one of the messages. “But I have to draw the line at that characterization of what I did … This was entirely relegated to text..It’s not excusable by any means but I have to make it clear that I would never act on any of that consensual fantasy talk.”
A judge has granted Catherine a temporary restraining order.
Catherine has been granted a temporary restraining order until the former couple’s hearing on August 20. The restraining order also extends to their dogs.
At the time of filing, Mickey was in a rehabilitation facility.
