Comedian and Giggly Squad podcaster Hannah Berner is really going through it right now. After she got Botox injections that were supposed to help treat her TMJ disorder — which can cause serious pain in your jaw and the muscles around it — she was instantly hit with regret. Even weeks later, her smile is still frozen in place, and people cannot stop laughing at what she looks like every time she attempts to laugh. Poor Hannah!
Hannah got out in front of the situation by announcing what happened to her on Giggly Squad.
Hannah first shared what happened to her in an episode of Giggly Squad that premiered at the end of June, calling it an “emergency press conference.”
“Two weeks ago, I innocently went to get masseter Dysport for my TMJ, and I went to a new place,” she said, confirming that the injector she went to see was not listed on Groupon, before anyone could ask.
After the injections, she was only able to smile the tiniest bit… and that smile, as she shows off in the video above, actually looks a lot more like she’s in pain than happy. You know how Chandler smiles in his engagement photos with Monica on Friends? Those are the vibes here.
“I didn’t even know this could happen,” she joked. “Is it possible that the poison that was injected into my face is now gonna ruin my face? Would this be the repercussions of my own actions?”
People are cracking up at Hannah’s new smile.
After Hannah’s big smile reveal, Giggly Squad‘s official Instagram account shared a video with clips of her trying to smile and laugh as much as her jaw muscles would allow, and people are absolutely losing it over how funny this is (seriously, just watch it — words cannot do it justice).
“This is the funniest thing i’ve seen on the internet in a long time,” one commenter wrote.
“I come back and watch this when I’m sad, and then I feel better,” another person added.
She’s keeping a pretty good sense of humor about the whole thing.
Fortunately, as a comedian, Hannah is also able to laugh at herself, which is key at a time like this. After Donald Trump called out reporter Kaitlan Collins for not smiling when he was giving his speech at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in July, Hannah posted a video saying she’s actually not smiling either in support of Kaitlan.
And like more than one person has pointed out in comments on the Giggly Squad‘s posts about the situation, even though it’s a rough thing for Hannah to go through, her frozen smile is bringing people a lot of joy. So really, that might be the silver lining in all of this?
It’s also not permanent, so sooner or later, Hannah will start looking like herself again and being able to smile fully. In the meantime, she’s going to continue cracking us all up every time she attempts to laugh.
