Falling in Love

Not long after Harry and Meghan took their relationship public, Meghan spoke with Vanity Fair about how she felt about her new boyfriend.

"We're in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time," she said.

"This is for us. It's part of what makes it so special, that it's just ours. But we're happy. Personally, I love a great love story." (And so do we!)

Harry's Statement to the Media

When the press caught wind of Harry and Meghan's relationship, things got crazy — to say the absolute least. Though it's very rare for the royals to do something like this, Harry quickly released an official statement through Kensington Palace, letting the paparazzi know their behavior was unacceptable.

"It is not right that a few months into a relationship with (Prince Harry) that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm," his statement read. "He knows that commentators will say that 'this is the price she has to pay' and 'this is all part of the game.' He strongly disagrees. This is her life and his."

Finding the One

During their engagement interview with the BBC, Prince Harry made it clear that he knew right away that Meghan was the person he'd be spending the rest of his life with. It truly sounds like it was love at first sight!

"When did I know she was 'the one?' The very first time we met," he said, likely leaving the entire viewing audience swooning.

The Proposal

In that same interview about their engagement, Meghan shared how sweet the moment was when Harry got down on one knee during a private evening they were sharing together, cooking dinner.

"It was so sweet and natural and very romantic," she said. "He got on one knee … I could barely let you finish proposing. I said, 'Can I say yes now?'"

Meant To Be

Harry basically had the most romantic thing ever to say about his love story with Meghan during their engagement interview: It was fate.

"The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was sort of confirmation to me that all of the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect," he said. "This beautiful woman just literally tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life."

Choosing Each Other

In the same interview, Harry shared that he and Meghan would meet any challenges that came their way in the future as a team — and boy, did that turn out to be true!

"I know that at the end of the day, she chooses me. I choose her. Whatever we have to tackle will be us together as a team," he said at the time.

The First Date

When describing his first date with Meghan, Harry made it clear that he was smitten the second he saw the woman who would end up being his future wife — and as it turns out, things only seem to have gotten better between them since.

"I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her," he admitted.

Proud of Meghan

While talking to the media immediately after Archie was born, Harry not only shared his excitement about becoming a dad for the first time, but also how in awe he was of his wife after she'd given birth.

"I'm incredibly proud of my wife," he said. "How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension."

The Two Best Guys

While talking to reporters when she first introduced son Archie to the world, Meghan seemed to be brimming with happiness over her love for her husband and her son.

"It's magic, it's pretty amazing," Meghan said during Archie's first public appearance days after his birth. "I have the two best guys in the world, so I'm really happy."

A Secret Wedding

In their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry and Meghan revealed that they'd actually gotten legally married on their own, before the big royal wedding we all witnessed in May 2018.

"Three days before our wedding, we got married," she said. "No one knows that. We called the Archbishop and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union between us.' So the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury."

Living Happily Ever After

While talking to Oprah, Harry described the feeling of expecting their baby girl as "amazing."

"Just grateful, like — to have any child, any one or any two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl, what more can you ask for?" he said. "Now we've got our family. We've got the four of us and our two dogs, and it's great."

Protecting Meghan

While talking to Oprah, Harry shared that his decision to walk away from royal life was made largely to protect Meghan and her mental health (along with his own).

"It's really sad that it's gotten to this point, but I've got to do something for my own mental health, my wife's, and for Archie's as well, because I could see where this was headed," he explained.

Secret Grocery Shopping

During an appearance on actor Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, Harry opened up about a secret meetup that he and Meghan shared in a grocery store in London when they were first dating.

"The first time that Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket, pretending that we didn't know each other," he recalled.

"So we texted each other from the other side of the aisle, with people looking at me and giving me all these weird looks, coming up to say 'hi.' And I was texting. It's like, 'Is this the right one?' She's like, 'No, you want parchment paper.' I'm like, 'Okay, where's the parchment paper?'"

Meghan's Perspective

On the subject of leaving royal life, Meghan told Oprah that Harry had been the one who had saved not only her, but Archie as well.

"I think he saved all of us," she said. "He ultimately called it and was like, 'We've got to find a way for us, for Archie.' You made a decision that certainly saved my life. And saved all of us."

At the Altar

One of the absolute sweetest moments that Meghan and Harry have ever shared took place during their wedding, when they joined each other at the altar and Harry turned to his bride and said, "You look amazing. I'm so lucky." It's always been so easy to see the chemistry between them.
