When Heath Ledger died in 2008, he left a 2-year-old daughter behind, and now that toddler is all grown up. It's rare that we see her out and about in public, but these new photos of Matilda Ledger show that she already looks exactly like her dad.
Matilda was recently photographed while out with her famous mom.
The sandy-haired 17-year-old, whose mom is Michelle Williams, has grown up to be a near replica of her father. Not only do the pair share the same wavy hair, but Matilda definitely inherited her father's eyes.
It's hard to look at the teen and think of anyone other than the 10 Things I Hate About You star.
The resemblance is more than skin deep.
Those who knew Heath best claim that Matilda has taken on a lot of her father's mannerisms and traits in the years since his death. Heath's father, Kim, spoke to The Project (via the Daily Mail) about his granddaughter and all the ways she seemed to be channeling her father.
"She's got an enormous number of his mannerisms," Kim revealed. "She's very inquisitive, she's got his energy, because Heath never slept from when he was two and Matilda's like that."
Heath's sister also notices a bit of her brother in her niece.
Speaking to Australia's Channel 10, Heath's sister, Kate, recalled how Matilda had been just like her dad as a toddler.
"She's just got this ball of energy, and she radiates this little aura," Kate once said, via Hollywood Life.
Heath was only 28 when he died.
The Dark Night star died on January 22, 2008, and his body was found by his masseuse and housekeeper. The actor was living alone in a SoHo apartment at the time and appeared to have accidentally overdosed on a combination of prescription medications including painkillers, anti-anxiety medications, and sleeping pills.
Michelle has worked hard to keep her daughter out of the spotlight since Heath's death.
Vowing to protect her daughter and allow her to be raised in peace, Michelle has largely kept her family's life private in the years since Heath's tragic death.
Matilda may not have gotten to know her father as well as she deserved to, but it's clear that she carries a piece of him with her all these years later.
