Heidi Klum Slammed for Only Eating 900 Calories a Day

Months after Gwyneth Paltrow faced backlash for sharing her diet, it appears the same thing is happening to Heidi Klum … but she's trying to nip it in the bud as quickly as possible. After reports surfaced earlier this week that Heidi only consumes 900 calories per day to maintain her model figure, the 50-year-old is denying that she ever said that — in fact, according to a video she shared trying to clear the air, she's never counted calories at any point in her life.

Heidi reportedly spoke out about her physique in an Instagram Q&A.

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that Heidi told her followers that she never eats more than 900 calories per day, and she starts each day with a breakfast of three poached eggs cooked in chicken broth.

She even stepped on a scale to proclaim that she now weighs 138 pounds, though she joked that her scale was probably "dusty" because of how infrequently she uses it.

People immediately blasted Heidi for her low-cal lifestyle.

In fact, multiple people went so far as to call it "disordered eating."

"No. We are not doing this again. For Heidi Klum to not only share calorie details on a platform of 11 million, but to WEIGH HERSELF for her followers? Promoting disordered behaviours as if they are normal and healthy? I’m begging, make it stop," one person tweeted.

Now, Heidi's denying she ever said that.

In a video she shared in her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, the America's Got Talent judge attempted to clear everything up.

"One, I want to say, I don’t think I’ve ever had to count my calories in my life, and don’t believe everything that you read," she said. "I don’t know. People just put things together and just write a bunch of crap, and it’s really sad because there really is no real journalism anymore."

She went on to explain that she only shared her weight because someone asked her to.

"People read that and think that and possibly follow that, and that's not good for them," Heidi said of the 900 calorie claim.

According to Heathline, most cisgender women will need to take in about 1,600 calories per day to maintain their weight, and eating fewer than 1,200, even while trying to lose weight, is not recommended, because it could lead to a lack of energy and even malnutrition.

It's good that Heidi was able to clear up the rumors.

Like she pointed out in her Instagram Stories, hearing that a public figure only eats 900 calories to maintain her figure can be dangerous to anyone who might try to follow the same path.

We're all on our own journeys with our bodies, and as complicated as those journeys might be, it's important to eat enough to keep ourselves fueled, healthy, and happy.
