16 of Hollywood’s Most Unlikely Friendships

One of the things we absolutely love about friendship is that it proves time and time again that who you connect with on a deeper level sometimes has nothing to do with who you are or where you're from. There are so many things that can bond people together that have nothing to do with their backgrounds, social status, or financial situations.

Celebrities are a perfect example of how true that is. Talent doesn't know socioeconomic or geographic bounds, so celebrities truly do come from all walks of life, and there are lots of stars who seem like total opposites but wind up being the best of friends.

It happens in real life too, so it shouldn't be as big of a surprise as it is that, say, a Midwestern actress can form an unlikely bond with a pro athlete from an inner city. When it comes to friendship, it's all about character and the heart. It's honestly a beautiful thing when two people can share their different experiences and perspectives with each other in the safe space that a true friendship provides.

So no matter how odd a Hollywood friendship may seem, we totally get it. And we stan for celebrities who can put their seemingly vast differences aside and connect on a deeper level with people who are different from them. Here, we're celebrating some celebs who've done just that and formed beautiful — but seemingly unlikely — friendships with each other.

Kris Jenner & Jennifer Lawrence

We didn't even know that Kris Jenner and Jennifer Lawrence knew each other until Kris wished Jennifer a happy birthday on Instagram in 2020, but they are legit friends. They met when Kris was enlisted to surprise Jennifer with a birthday cake a few years back and have been close friends ever since.

It all started because the Hunger Games star is a Keeping Up With the Kardashians fan, and we find it super interesting that she's tighter with Kris than with any of Kris' daughters, who are closer to Jennifer's age.

Snoop Dogg & Martha Stewart

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart have been friends for years. The swanky rapper from the hood and the hoity-toity celebrity chef even host a cooking show together. They first met when Snoop was a guest on Martha's daytime show, Martha, and met again a few years later at a Comedy Central roast of singer Justin Bieber.

"She was the funniest roaster that night. In that moment, I knew I wanted to be alongside this lady for the rest of my life," Snoop said of Martha.

Beyoncé's hubby, Jay-Z, and Gwyneth Paltrow may seem like the oddest of odd couples, but the rapper (and former drug dealer) and the wellness guru (and former actress) connected at a charity event in New York. At the time, Gwyneth was still married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, and the two couples evidently hit it off quickly.

They've even had playdates with their kids. Some say they're not as close as they used to be, but they still support each other often.

Ed Sheeran & Courteney Cox

These two goofballs apparently liked each other immediately. They met at a party in 2013 and have been friends ever since. Ed even lived at Courteney's Malibu, California, abode for a while. He's also the one who introduced Courteney to her boyfriend, Johnny McDaid. Some people just hit it off, and that was apparently the case for Courteney and Ed, who have been super tight ever since.

Mila Kunis & Princess Beatrice

Actress Mila Kunis and Princess Beatrice have been friends for years. Mila grew up far from royal, making her relationship with Beatrice really surprising. They actually met through a seemingly random connection: Mila's husband, Ashton Kutcher, was an early investor in Uber, which Beatrice's ex-boyfriend Dave Clark used to work for. The ladies get along super well and often vacation together.

Tyra Banks & Clay Aiken

TV personality Tyra Banks and singer Clay Aiken met when he was a guest on her talk show years ago, and evidently they completely hit it off. "For some reason, we just clicked, and we try to stay in touch and see each other whenever we're in town," Clay told People about their surprising friendship.

Zach Braff & Harry Styles

This one just makes us laugh, but it's totally cute. Comedian and actor Zach Braff has a bit of a man crush on English singer Harry Styles, which led to them actually becoming real-life friends. They've been buds for years and often support each other's various projects. Zach, of course, makes sure to keep their adoring fans in the loop on their antics together with hilarious tweets on the regular.

Katy Perry & Neil deGrasse Tyson

Honestly, we didn't even know about this until recently, but evidently Katy had been a fan of the celebrity scientist before they met and eventually ended up on his talk show, StarTalk. She asked Neil tons of questions, and he was totally impressed by her as a person. Their mutual admiration bloomed into a lasting friendship.

Justin Bieber & Ellen DeGeneres

Despite some awkward moments during interviews on her talk show, Justin Bieber and Ellen DeGeneres have been good friends for most of his career. He's appeared on her show dozens of times. They've always had a great rapport and seem to have a genuine affinity for each other.

Justin Bieber & Diane Keaton

Iconic actress Diane Keaton was a fan of the Biebs before they were friends, and the first time they connected was when he surprised her on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show in 2015. In 2021 it became clear that the two have kept in touch when Justin released the music video for his song "Ghost" and Diane was featured in it. So cute!

Kourtney Kardashian & Addison Rae

Although their friendship seems to have simmered down a bit now, reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian and influencer Addison Rae were so tight at one point in 2020 that people started to wonder if there was something more going on between them.

There's a 21-year age gap between the two, and they actually met because Kourt's son Mason is a fan of Addison's TikTok videos. Kourtney even made a cameo in Addison's 2021 Netflix movie He's All That.

Gordon Ramsay & Gigi Hadid

We absolutely love this one. After supermodel Gigi Hadid appeared on Gordon Ramsay's show MasterChef Celebrity Showdown, the two kept in touch and Gigi often rings him for cooking advice.

"My daughters, they love me. It's not because I'm a f—ing good chef. They love me because I talk to Gigi Hadid. That's the only reason why they want to talk to me," Gordon told People about their relationship.

Jack McBrayer & Alexander Skarsgard

We still can't get over this one, simply because their on-screen personas are so vastly different. Jack, of course, is a comedian through and through, and Alexander often plays seriously intimidating characters, but the two have been tight in real life for a very long time. They've been spotted together both personally and professionally on many occasions, and you can tell at first glance how comfortable they are with each other.

Mariah Carey & Will Ferrell

Obviously, they are both Christmas icons so they have that in common. Even though Mariah Carey and Will Ferrell perhaps connected over their mutual affinity for the winter holiday, the two have maintained their friendship for years. They're true fans of each other's work — Will often attends Mariah's shows, and she planned to make a cameo for one of his movies. We bet they're hilarious together!

Kim Kardashian & Serena Williams

Long before Kim Kardashian was a powerhouse in her own right, she worked for tennis legend Serena Williams. Kim used to help people organize and clean out their closets before she was world famous. She was hired by Serena, and the two hit it off and have been buds ever since. Kim even attended Serena's wedding to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.

Elton John & Eminem

As many times as rapper Eminem has been accused of being homophobic, you would never guess that he and gay icon and music legend Elton John are actually friends. The two performed Em's song "Stan" together at the 2001 Grammys, a collab that launched their unlikely friendship.

Elton defends Em at every chance he gets. "And I thought, 'How could anyone think this is?' He's just writing about the way things are. Not how he thinks, but the way things are," Elton once said, explaining how he felt about Eminem's controversial Marshall Mathers album.
