Hugh Grant Is Blasted for Being an ‘A-Hole’ to Ashley Graham During Oscars Interview

The champagne carpet has been the talk of the town ahead of Sunday night's Oscars ceremony, but now fans are buzzing for a whole new reason: Hugh Grant's rude red carpet interview with Ashley Graham. The Love Actually star was missing his trademark charm — and Twitter definitely noticed.

Hugh didn't seem like he really wanted to take part in a preshow interview.

Ashley was tasked by ABC with asking Hugh some of the standard red carpet questions that Oscars viewers have come to know and love — like Who are you wearing — while chatting with the British actor before he took the stage as a presenter. But the mother of three had to do some serious heavy lifting during the awkward conversation because Hugh clearly couldn't be bothered and appeared as if he would have rather been talking about anything else.

The 62-year-old was very dismissive of Ashley.

Hugh awkwardly made his way through the interview by offering up as little information as he could while talking to Ashley. Not only was he unwilling to tell her who he would be rooting for during the awards ceremony, but he offered up no details about the designer of his suit.

People noticed the uncomfortable exchange and commented about it online.

There was no shortage of Oscars viewers posting their reactions.

"And the Oscar for the guy who totally doesn't want to be there goes to Hugh Grant," wrote one person.

Another person joked that Hugh just wasn't interested in this line of questioning. "Hugh Grant wants no part of this dumb s—," the person tweeted.

Some thought he was being unfair to Ashley, who was just doing her job.

"Wow. Hugh Grant was an a–hole," one critic tweeted. "Don't do the interview if you clearly don't want to be interviewed."

Another person came to Ashley's defense. "Is Hugh Grant just an arrogant d— all the time?" the person asked. "He was so rude to Ashley Graham on the red carpet, complete with an eye roll. Maybe he should stay home if he's too good for his industry of choice."

We have to admit, Hugh was less than delightful, which is unusual for him.

Maybe Hugh was nervous about his upcoming presentation.

Last year, Chris Rock was slapped by Will Smith while the comedian was on stage to present an award, so it's entirely possible that Hugh was prepping himself for what could prove to be an unexpected night on stage.

Whatever the reason for his awkward interview, it's clear that Ashley handled it like a true pro. She did a lot of work to save the segment and keep it from turning into something totally unwatchable. Kudos, Ashley!
