Ivanka Trump Gets Slammed for Her ‘For-Profit’ Fresh Produce Initiative

Not long after Donald Trump‘s plans to cut funding to federal programs that provide healthy food to those in need across the United States came to fruition, per MSNBC, his daughter, Ivanka Trump, announced her plans to use her company to help those in need of fresh produce. The two ideas are directly in opposition, but when Ivanka announced her plans to use the company she co-founded, Planet Harvest (a for-profit rather than a nonprofit) to bring healthy food to communities, it left some people scratching their heads.

When someone shared the news in a Reddit thread, many were quick to chime in and wonder what Ivanka’s plans really are. According to one person in the comment section, Ivanka is a “food banker,” using her company to appear to do something positive for the country when her father took away funding that did just that already. For many, it’s a mess and one that shows Ivanka’s true colors with the Trump administration yet again.

Ivanka Trump spoke out as the co-founder of the for-profit company Planet Harvest.

In May 2025, Ivanka told Axios that she plans to use her company to offer healthy produce to people in communities across the US where they might not already get it. Again, for many who commented on her initiative in the Reddit thread, her vision was already set forth by the US Department of Agriculture before funding was cut.

“We launched Planet Harvest to re-imagine how American produce moves – not just through the supply chain, but across communities,” Ivanka told Axios. “By connecting fresh and surplus harvests with those who can benefit from them, we’re supporting farmers, reducing food waste, expanding access and using good nutrition to improve health.”

For many who learned of her plans with Planet Harvest, Ivanka’s ideas appear to be something that isn’t exactly novel. And people on social media were quick to point out just why they don’t agree with Ivanka’s plans amid her father’s decisions as president in his second term.

People were quick to point out the hypocrisy of Ivanka’s plans for produce.

Because the US Department of Agriculture took funding away that helped low-income areas in the United States gain access to fresh produce, for many, Ivanka’s company, which she told Axios is “for-profit,” doesn’t make sense unless you consider that Ivanka is, as one person said in the Reddit thread, “Only out to make a buck.”

Another person commented, “Vapid oligarch Barbie says eat your vegetables.”

Someone replied to that comment with, “But you must pay for them, not get grants for them!”

Elsewhere on social media, others pointed out that former first lady Michelle Obama’s healthy food initiative also promised healthy produce across the country. According to a user on X (formerly Twitter), however, “it spawned years of unhinged right wing rage.”

Someone replied to that thread on X with, “Michelle did it better, she did it with a focus on health for everyone, pretty sure the trump child just wants to be noticed and it will only benefit the wealthy who already eat well.”

Despite Ivanka’s claims of wanting to offer access to farmers and Americans in general to healthy produce, according to many, this has been done before. And when it was done in the past, it wasn’t through an organization that a president’s child profited from.
