What to Know
It’s such a strange thing when some celebrities have zero awareness that they’re being photographed. Maybe they simply grow accustomed to people and cameras following them around everywhere and the small gestures and the way they present themselves to the world quickly become an afterthought. At least, in this case, we’d like to hope so.
Rapper and model, Jaden Smith, has recently caught some heat after some cameras captured a moment when he was walking into a restaurant with his girlfriend. The part that people really zoned in on was where the actor was keeping his hands as he walked and where he placed his hands right after. Let’s just say that some hand sanitizer in between would have been appreciated!
Jaden Smith walked into a public place in a manner that catches many people off guard.
A bit of a controversial nepo baby who has continually put himself out there in terms of acting, modeling, and music, Jaden Smith has been spotted with out and about with his new girlfriend in Paris in late June 2026.
If you watch the video, you get to see Jaden hopping out of a black SUV and kindly grabbing the hand of his girlfriend. Where his other hand is placed is not so cutesy and demure.
As he makes his way out of the vehicle, you can clearly see that one of Jaden’s hands is placed inside the front of his jeans, and there it remains until he reaches the door of the French restaurant. That’s right. Jaden uses the hand that was just down his pants to then open a public door that loads of other hands touch on a daily basis!
To say the internet got the ick is a bit of an understatement.
People are calling this move totally gross.
As if we’ve learned absolutely nothing about hand hygiene the past several years, lots of people in the comments section on X can’t really get over why Jaden would think this type of behavior is okay.
One person wrote, “And this is a prime example on why you should wash your hands before you eat because you never know if another man touched his b—- before he opened the door before you…” Yuck.
Another individual in the comments tried to make light of the whole situation. “Jaden really went from deep pants adjustment straight to opening the door with the same hand like it’s normal procedure,” they wrote followed by a crying laughing emoji.
Another couldn’t help but hope that Jaden didn’t greet anyone with a handshake while inside the restaurant. “Why is he putting his hand there, let’s hope he didn’t shake anyone’s hand,” they wrote.
This kind of thing seems to be a phenomenon that most can’t fully wrap their minds around.
It turns out that Will and Jada’s son isn’t the only young man who partakes in this kind of overt handsy gesture.
This Reddit thread begged the question: “Can someone please explain why young men and teens walk around with their hands down the front of their pants in public?” Even as moms and parents, it’s a difficult thing to understand.
One person offered up this answer by commenting, “It’s a comfort thing for men young lads at home, but why in public I don’t know definitely not appropriate.” Another individual on Reddit shared their thoughts, which really does help to make sense of it. They wrote, “Same reason people play tiktoks out loud on the bus or wear pajamas in public. People are too comfortable outside of their homes.”
Another couldn’t help but wonder if it’s a physical movement based on exerting faux confidence. “I’ve been wondering this myself. My theory is that it’s for intimidation and an effort towards showing everyone that they don’t care about what people think of them,” they wrote. That could be a decent theory as well.
Whatever Jaden’s reason for this, would it kill him to at least carry some hand sanitizer or wipes with him for next time?
