James Duggar Admits He Has a Dangerous Hobby That’s ‘Not Legal’

Over the years, the Duggar kids have shown us plenty of their hobbies, and for the most part, they aren’t anything out of the ordinary. More than one of Jim Bob and Michelle‘s kids has grown up to have a love of music, DIY projects, and cooking. But for James Duggar, it’s a little different, and after what we learned about him during his appearance on The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast this week, it sounds like he might be the daredevil of the family.

While chatting with big sister Jinger Duggar and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, the group got to talking about 23-year-old James’ more adventurous moments  – even when it comes to things that you’d never suspect he could do.

After talking about some of his most mischievous childhood moments (like when he and his brothers got in trouble for shooting paint at cars with paintball guns), Jinger brought up the fact that though he’s “mild-mannered” now that he’s an adult, he’s also got a wild side.

“People would look at you and say, ‘Oh, he’s so quiet. He’s so chill.’ But then the crazy things that James does,” Jinger said on the podcast.

She brought up that her little brother does “the coolest gender reveals,” some of which we’ve been able to see on social media, such as the time he orchestrated a speeding pink truck to do a dive into a pond as pink fireworks were blasted off in front of it for Katey and Jed.

And speaking of his affinity for fireworks, that’s where the “illegal” part of this hobby comes in.

“I did like to build fireworks back in the day,” he said on the podcast after a bit of prodding from Jeremy. “Just like … I think it’s legal. But some of it’s not legal.”

It doesn’t always go well, though. Jinger brought up the time that he managed to burn off his eyebrows while playing with fireworks. Yikes!

Fortunately, his injury didn’t scare him off, and it seems he got pretty good at getting the pyrotechnics to do exactly what he wanted them to do after enough practice. According to the guys, James was just responding to the male need to “blow something up.”

With so many kids (and grandbabies), it’s not easy to come up with unique gender reveals that haven’t already been done in the family, so it’s a good thing James and his ingenuity are around!
