Jana Duggar kept her relationship with Stephen Wissmann totally under wraps until after they tied the knot last year, but now, she’s giving fans a peek into their earliest days. On Sunday, Jana shared photos from Stephen’s romantic proposal on Instagram, offering a glimpse into her engagement that she hid from the world for two months before the couple’s August wedding.

Set to the song “I Said Yes” by Sunny Bloom, Jana shared pictures from the romantic moment. Surrounded by nature, Stephen managed to create quite a display for his future wife, which included rose petals arranged in the shape of a heart where he got down on one knee.
“One year ago today, I said ‘yes’ to the love of my life and it has truly been the best decision ever!” Jana wrote in her caption. “Stephen completely surprised me (which is hard to do) with a mountaintop proposal overlooking the lake, it was absolutely magical!! I am so grateful to God for bringing us together! This past year has by far exceeded my dreams and I canβt wait to see what the future holds!”
Fans gushed over the photos.
In the comments, fans obsessed about everything from how beautiful the proposal itself was to Jana’s “classy” attire for the occasion.
“When you[r] wait for the right one looks exactly like this!” one of her followers wrote, while another commented, “Watching you get married was such a happy ending. You have always been so supportive of everyone and never stopped smiling.”
Stephen shared his memories from the big moment, too.
In an Instagram post of his own, Stephen shared two photos from that day, including a selfie of the freshly engaged couple.
“Jana Marie, one year ago today I managed with help, the difficult feat of actually surprising you,” he wrote. “I got on one knee and asked you to marry me and you graciously said yes! One year later, life with you keeps getting better and better. Walking thru joys and sorrows, surprises and disappointments, with you has made me fall in love with you over and over again. I love you more than ever and look forward to many more years of life with my best friend.”
Critics called her out for not ‘leaving room for Jesus.’
Unsurprisingly, critics on Reddit had plenty to say about the posts β especially when it came to the fact that Jana and Stephen were breaking all kinds of Duggar courtship rules in the way that they held hands and embraced before marriage. The scandal!
Oh, and there was also the way Jana was breaking Duggar dress code in her engagement dress, at least one person pointed out: “And just think, several years ago, past Jana would have colored in her exposed knees β¦ hypocrite alert.”
But they both do look so happy, and the fact that they managed to pull off a wedding two months later is seriously impressive. These two were not messing around!
