As far as we know, Jana Duggar is still closely connected with parents Michelle and Jim Bob, but that doesn't mean she's not going to break a few rules. In a new photo that Jinger shared from their July 4 festivities, Jana is wearing shorts and a tank top — two pieces of clothing that her parents' dress code definitely doesn't permit.

Jinger shared a photo from her family's July 4th celebration.
"To celebrate America’s birthday, I ran a 5k. Not sure how that contributes to the celebrations but … Happy 4th!" Jinger wrote.
In the photo, Jinger is posing with a friend along with her brother-in-law, Ben Seewald, and older sister Jana Duggar, who's wearing shorts and a tank top — a rare sight to see!
It seems her family came to visit her in California for the holiday, which is nice, but what people can't stop discussing is Jana's clothing.
The comments are flooded with people talking about Jana's outfit.
One commenter wrote, "She’s wearing shorts!!!!! Yessss Jana!!!!" and another added, "I’m so glad to see Jana wearing shorts and tank top."
Others focused on the freedom the sisters must be feeling — and not just because of the holiday. "I believe your US holiday celebrates independence? So YOU did what YOU wanted to do, for your own pleasure. I'd say you celebrated it!" someone wrote.
It's been speculated that Jana is still under her parents' control.
In the wake of the release of the Shiny Happy People docuseries, it appears that according to the Institute in Basic Life Principles — the cult-like religion that the Duggars follow — as an unmarried woman, Jana would still fall under her father Jim Bob's umbrella of authority, even at 33 years old.
It does seem, however, that she's still finding her own path anyway, including when it comes to what she wears.

Jana appears to feel a bit more free in California.
Earlier this year, Jinger shared a photo of her and Jana working on a DIY project together during one of Jana's visits to her sister. Here, she's wearing shorts and a tank top, which might be something she saves for times when she's not around her parents.
Here's hoping this is a sign that Jana's doing well.
After the scary things we've heard about their family's involvement in the IBLP, it's good to see Jana forging her own path and enjoying time with her sister in California. Considering how private she's become in recent years, it's hard to say where she stands now, but it looks like she can count on Jinger to have her back as she navigates whatever this part of her life will bring.
