What to Know
People are calling Vice President JD Vance childish after he decided to weigh in on the feud between rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. Given that he recently made an awkward penis joke and is now sharing his thoughts on the beef between two rappers, social media users are convinced that JD is trying way too hard to come across as cool and likable. And they’re embarrassed.
In case you missed it, there is reason to think JD was not merely sharing his music preferences, as Nicki has recently shared more and more posts praising the Trump administration. Cardi, on the other hand, has made it very clear that she does not support President Donald Trump.
Nicki also posted something about JD.
She later deleted the post, but not before people took screenshots. On December 10, Nicki shared a laughing Chucky image and wrote, “Vance > Rants,” per Buzzfeed. It’s unclear what motivated her to share this, but apparently, JD appreciated it so much that he decided to assert that Nicki is better than Cardi.
The vice president responded to Nicki’s original post with, “Nicki>Cardi.” And while some people found it humorous or even appreciated it, many others were immediately critical — because why is the vice president even commenting on this feud?
“Does he actually work? Like why is he saying anything?” one person wrote on Reddit. “This is embarrassing. This whole administration is embarrassing.” Another person added, “Ah, yes, weighing in on the important things when we can’t afford groceries.”

While some people were clearly questioning JD’s priorities, others thought he was trying to hard to get people to like him.
Some of them could respect his effort, but not to the point that they would actually support him. One person responded to JD’s X post with, “valid but we still aren’t voting for you.” Others called the whole thing “gross” and said the Trump administration is so “unserious.”
Someone wrote, “JD Vance wants to be the ‘cool guy in his 40s’ so bad.” To many people, it came across as extremely childish. “I don’t understand the childishness of Vance and Trump. They hold two of the most powerful offices in the world…yet they engage in petty feuds with people who hold no power. Are they that thirsty for attention, or do they simply lack self-respect?” one person questioned.
Another critic said JD’s comment made it clear that he was “desperate to fit in with the cool kids in school,” while someone else compared the Trump administration to kids in elementary school.
“It’s just the same old bully mindset from the Elementary playground, but in the White House…” they wrote. “‘Oh, we hate Cardi now? Cool, everyone gang up on her!'”
Nicki seemed to appreciate it though.

After the vice president told everyone that she’s better than Cardi, she started sharing JD memes that other people created. “Nothing brings me joy like the Vance memes & knowing he leaned into it like a boss,” she wrote in an X post on December 11. “Top Tier Comedy Character = 100. But make no mistake, Vance is an assassin. Don’t debate him. On anything. Quick as a computer. Maybe quicker. He’s the best blend I’ve ever seen of us&them.”
Not everyone saw JD’s approval as a “win” in the way Nicki appeared to. After all this played out, one person on Reddit concluded, “Pretty sure this just means Cardi automatically wins the beef.”
