What to Know
A recent family update from Jessa Duggar kind of looked like a pregnancy announcement — and some people think it was intentional. In August, Jessa shared a new family update on YouTube and titled it, “Goodbye, Minivan… First Road Trip in Our New Ride!” And while the title feels pretty straightforward, the thumbnail image suggested they had a very specific reason for getting a larger vehicle: baby no. 7.
Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, share six children. The thumbnail image for the new YouTube video is an AI-generated image that depicts a stork delivering a newborn baby to their family. It’s also decorated with large red question marks (for dramatic effect?). Understandably, viewers took this to mean they might be expanding their family and therefore purchasing a bigger vehicle. But nope.
In reality, they just felt like their minivan wasn’t big enough for their family.
At the start of the video, Jessa explained that her family was getting ready for an upcoming road trip. This made them decide that it might finally be time to get a larger vehicle since the minivan was starting to feel pretty cramped. And, to be fair, as many commenters pointed out, getting the new vehicle might truly be life-changing for them.
That does not, however, explain why Jessa chose to use a thumbnail image that implied she was expecting her seventh child. And that is precisely what bothered a lot of critics.
Some saw it as a strategic way to get more clicks and views.
Which is definitely an… interesting choice. Presumably, it did work well for her. But people were still bothered by it once they found out that the video was not a pregnancy announcement. “She loves the click bait tactic!!!” one critic wrote on Reddit. “Mother has to grift even if it’s fake drama,” someone else added.
A few commenters were genuinely confused because of the misleading image. “So is she pregnant? Or was this clickbait?” another person questioned.
At the same time, some people are still convinced that Jessa actually is pregnant.
She clearly wasn’t announcing a pregnancy in this video. As some commenters pointed out, Jessa actually specified that she’s not expecting, but added the word “yet” after saying that. So, in a way, perhaps she was soft launching her pregnancy announcement? A lot of people seem to think one could be coming very soon.
“I’m sure baby number 7 isn’t far behind,” someone wrote. “I predict a pregnancy announcement sometime between Thanksgiving & Christmas,” another commenter guessed.
And some people are convinced that Jessa is actually pregnant already, even though she said she isn’t. “I’m sure she is pregnant as Eddie is a year old now,” one commenter speculated. In response, someone else wrote, “She said she wasn’t pregnant… yet. I mean, I guess she could lie but I don’t think (she) would.”
At the same time, that commenter did call Jessa out for her “ridiculous clickbait.” They added that it’s actually “extremely annoying but I guess she wanted those clicks. Gotta pay for their first actual new car somehow!”
