The Duggars have never tried to hide their controversial, ultra-conservative beliefs, but some fans who thought Jill Duggar may have changed after leaving the family’s cult-like religion are still disappointed. After she was spotted liking an anti-trans Instagram post this week, Jill is being slammed for being a “bigot” – and some of her critics don’t believe anyone should have been surprised by this development.

The post in question came from Fox News' Instagram account.
In a screenshot shared on a popular Duggar-related subreddit, we can see Jill’s Instagram username liked a post from the conservative news network related to the hot button debate about trans athletes. Although Jill has never said her views have become more liberal since walking away from the Institute in Basic Life Principles, it seems as if some fans may have been holding out hope that she had changed her opinions.
Some people don't think anyone should have been surprised by this.
“Of course she is. Anyone surprised by this hasn’t been paying attention,” one commenter wrote. Another person added that although some of the Duggar sisters have changed their opinions on things such as wearing pants, they didn’t “develop empathy” along the way.
“They wanted to wear pants and shorts. They wanted a nose ring. They wanted to use birth control. They wanted to utilise public education and daycare,” the person wrote. “They wanted to wear heavy makeup and dye their hair. They wanted to wear a revealing wedding dress. They wanted to change belief sects … So they decided that all those things were now okay in God’s eyes. “Everything else, like premarital sex or queerness, can remain hated because it doesn’t affect them personally.”
One person called her a 'bigot,' while another explained why liking this post was so 'intentionally evil.'
“And the fact that she’s only liking these posts and not sharing them, is so, intentionally EVIL,” one commenter wrote. “Often times it can be the ones who are quiet about it, the people who lead us into a false sense of trust, who can be the most dangerous. This is sickening.”

Jill's husband, Derick, landed in hot water for his own anti-trans beliefs years ago.
In 2017, Derick came under fire when he said that he pitied Jazz Jennings, the star of TLC reality show I Am Jazz and misgendered her in the process after stating that he believes being trans is a “myth.”
“I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child,” he tweeted in October 2017. “It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on tv these days.”
TLC, which aired 'Counting On' in addition to Jazz's show, was quick to issue a statement at the time.
“We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future,” read the statement at the time. “We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so.”
