Those who watched 19 Kids & Counting know that for years, the Duggar family was all about home haircuts – after all, regular trips to the salon for 19 kids plus two adults can really add up! But even though we’ve seen Jim Bob and Michelle’s oldest daughters turn to the professionals when they’re looking for a change, Jill decided to give herself a chop this week, though fans have some pretty mixed opinions about her new look.

Jill showed off her new hair in a post on Instagram.
Alongside a video that showed her holding several inches of her hair in a scrunchie that she’d chopped off at home, Jill gave her followers a peek at her freshly trimmed tresses in the mirror.
“I needed a trim … took off a little extra just because,” Jill wrote in her caption. “I love the added volume & body after a good trim, but I do still love keeping some length.”
Fans offered her plenty of compliments on Instagram.
Her followers seemed to love her shorter cut, with one person writing, “It looks good! You have so much hair! I’m sure it’s really heavy when you [p]ut it up. It’s really pretty!”
Another commenter wrote, “You look so happy! The hair looks great too and I’m sure it’s refreshing for you. I always feel like a new person when I get my hair cut. You’re far braver than me cutting your own!”
Jill explained why she cut her own hair this time.
We’ve seen her visit the salon plenty of times over the last few years and leave with stunning locks, so why didn’t she make an appointment this time?
“Yeah, desperate times call for desperate measures! Haha [Amidst] this busy season I didn’t have time to go anywhere and get it done so DIY it was!” she told one of her followers in a comment.

Some people were less impressed with Jill's DIY 'do.
In a post about Jill’s haircut on Reddit, one critic called her out for trying to appear like a relatable, busy mom.
“She’s trying to be quirky and relatable … Mostly she’s just boring and a snooze fest lol no one cares you chopped some hair off jillymuffy, no one would have noticed either,” the person wrote.
“So she chopped off 5cm of her damaged ends? Groundbreaking. Also, blonde doesn’t look good on her at all. No comment about the outfit,” someone else commented.
Ouch!
All that matters is that Jill is happy with her hair.
Besides, this is a very busy time of the year for most of us — especially moms who are also wrangling three young children the way Jill is!
Her hair must feel so much healthier and lighter now.
