There are a lot of strange moments you’ll come across throughout a single episode of 19 Kids and Counting. With multiple people in the Duggar clan facing criminal charges, some of which are related to child abuse crimes, it can certainly make you feel a little bit funny when you stumble across some old clips of the family interacting with all of those young kids. One of Jim Bob Duggar‘s moments on the hit TV show has recently resurfaced and gone viral and shockingly enough, some people are on Jim Bob’s side while others do not agree with how he handled an uncomfortable parenting moment.

The thing about kids, especially when there are pretty much hordes and hordes of them within your deeply religious family, there is always going to be some kind of fight happening.
In an old clip from 19 Kids & Counting that was shared to this Reddit thread, Jim Bob Duggar has a moment while looking after some of his grandchildren that’s making a few people scratch their heads.
Two of the younger grandkids, Meredith and Spurgeon, are caught on camera biting each other while they’re having a difficult moment. When a few of the kids run and tell their grandfather, Jim Bob, what was happening, you get an up-close look at pop’s parenting.
In the clip, you can see Jim Bob asking the crying kids if they were really biting each other and when they confirm, he tells them that “we don’t ever go and bite somebody.” He then asks both kids involved in the incident if they like it when somebody bites them. When the children say no, Jim Bob confirms that this should show them that they shouldn’t bite people. He then shares that he’s going to wait until their parents come back to fully deal with the situation.
Some people are actually on Jim Bob’s side when it comes to handling this fight.
When children decide to turn to their sense of physicality when trying to express themselves, it’s very helpful to have some things in your parenting arsenal all ready to go. You would think that someone like Jim Bob Duggar would be ready at a moment’s notice.
Some people in the Reddit thread are actually applauding how he handled this awkward moment with two kids who are still very young. “To be fair, that’s a somewhat age appropriate way to explain why not to do something. Some kids find the “it’s not nice and we don’t do that” to be way too vague to understand,” someone shared in the comments.
Another individual in the Reddit comment section shared how it can feel difficult, especially in the moment, to figure out how to deal with children biting one another. They seem to think Jim Bob didn’t do too bad. “Hate to say this since JB is such a tool, but as a toddler mom, I have heard from both other parents and early childhood educators that “just wait until they get [bite] back” is one of the best ways to end a biting habit,” they wrote.
Some are shocked to see how Jim Bob still seems to be out of his element when it comes to parenting.
When you’re someone like Jim Bob who has all those kids and grandchildren, it can be kind of funny to see how they handle some of those hard to deal with disciplinary moments.
One person in the Reddit thread couldn’t help but laugh about Jim Bob’s overall demeanor towards parenting and discipline. “The fact that JB is befuddled and exasperated after having so many kids is hilarious. Talk about having a slow learning curve on the job,” they wrote. Another individual replied to this comment by sharing, “The fact that that man is always in a tucked in collared button down tells you he is never prepared to actually supervise a down small children.”
Another individual in the Reddit thread couldn’t help but notice some of the dynamics at play when it comes to the young girls and preteens within the family. “Note the preteen/child females noticing the issue, alerting the adult, running to interfere (barefoot) and retrieve the smalls and holding said smalls while man lectured. Man didn’t even have to move or touch the smalls just give words of wisdom,” they wrote.
It is interesting to look back at this viral moment featuring Jim Bob because it really works to give you a snapshot of some of the complicated dynamics at play within this family. Some of them seem totally normal while other moments immediately give you the ick.
