Critics Bash Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar for Letting Daughter Josie Wear ‘Unsafe’ Swimsuit

If you've followed the Duggar family for a while, you already know that a modest dress code is very important to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and that means that when their family visits the beach, traditional swimwear like bikinis aren't an option for their children. But after seeing what they require their daughters to wear instead, some critics are calling their rules "unsafe" — especially when it comes to youngest daughter Josie's beach getup. Recently, Joy-Anna shared a vlog from her family's vacation.

Most members of the family got together to share some fun and sun in Destin, Florida, and Joy-Anna documented what happened after she, husband Austin Forsyth, and their three children joined them down there.

Fans easily caught glimpses of other Duggar family members in the video, but one sighting in particular seems to have drummed up criticism.

Not everyone was wearing traditional swimwear.

In one clip included in the video, Joy-Anna's younger sister, 13-year-old Josie, is seen walking in the sand wearing what appears to be a swim dress. As The Sun pointed out, this caught the eye of some critics who slammed Jim Bob and Michelle for seemingly making their daughter wear something like this.

Fans had some safety concerns.

Though some did admit that the suit looked rather uncomfortable and called it "performative modesty," others were more worried that it would be unsafe to swim in.

"This is an all-around unpleasant experience. Those fabrics aren't made for that. Had to be awful," one person wrote.

Another person added, "I guarded at a local YMCA, and if someone tried to swim in this at my pool? It just wouldn’t fly."

These types of swimsuits are nothing new to the family.

In one episode of 19 Kids & Counting, Michelle explained that they wanted their children to "try to stay covered," even while playing in water. In this clip, you can see that even a trip to the Dead Sea didn't get them away from the swimdresses like Josie's that the girls typically wore.

Hopefully, Josie was able to stay safe.

Wearing something with loose fabric while swimming could potentially cause an issue, especially in an emergency situation. According to Joy-Anna's video, it appears the trip went off without a hitch, but less restrictive swimwear might be something the Duggars should think about in the future …
