Jim Carrey Sparks Conspiracy Frenzy After Rare Public Appearance

In recent years, public appearances made by actor and comedian Jim Carrey have become few and far between, so when he appeared at an award show last week, fans were excited… and then, very confused. He showed up not looking (or sounding) quite like himself on the red carpet, which has led to the creation of many conspiracy theories — including plenty of people predicting that the man at the awards show wasn’t the Truman Show actor at all.

Fans were immediately convinced that something was off with Jim.

After Jim stepped out at the Cesár Awards in Paris on Thursday, footage of him on the red carpet went viral online from people who had serious doubts that this was the same actor they knew and loved, from the way he looked to the way his voice sounded.

Immediately, it was clear that fans had questions, and they started sharing their theories on X. “The voice and eye thing is what people cannot explain. Jim Carrey is famously expressive but this was something different. Hard to watch without a double take,” one person wrote on X.

Others thought that he’d had some sort of cosmetic procedures or fillers, while some chalked it up to the aging process. But others went a bit more tin hat than that.

Some people were convinced that it was actually an imposter.

While discussing Jim’s changing looks on Reddit, more than one person admitted that they believed Jim had sent someone else to fill in for him at the awards.

“People are saying he sent an impersonator to accept his award, don’t know if that’s true or if people are just coping but if it is true would make be more on par with his personality than him getting plastic surgery,” one commenter wrote.

“That is not Jim Carrey. That is an impersonator,” another person agreed.

Jim’s rep has already confirmed that it was, in fact, him at the awards.

It would be pretty wild if that wasn’t actually Jim on the red carpet (especially since he did give an acceptance speech on stage when he was presented with an honorary award for his career in movies), and it sounds like he’s not even entertaining the idea.

“Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award,” his rep said in a statement to People on Monday.
