Jim Edmonds Files for Split Custody, Claims Ex Meghan King Is an ‘Unstable & Unfit’ Parent

Contentious exes Jim Edmonds and Meghan King appear poised to face the ultimate legal showdown, as Jim's lawyers have filed for an amendment to the former couple's existing custody arrangement. The court documents contain some explosive claims, with former MLB player Jim branding Meghan an "unfit" mother, among other things — yikes!

Jim is seeking split custody.

According to a legal rep who spoke to People, documents were filed in a St. Louis court on March 13 requesting a major overhaul to Jim and Meghan's existing arrangement. Calling the existing agreement "impractical and unworkable," Jim wants to change up the current process, which requires that a new custody schedule be created every 30 days, switching up the days that each parent has visitation with their three shared children.

In addition to Jim and Meghan, a parent coordinator weighs in on the process.

Whenever Meghan and Jim fail to come to an agreement, a third party has to work with them to settle things. This has the unintended consequence of forcing Jim into an arrangement that doesn't always work because of the "practical limitations of seeking the parent coordinator's guidance with each monthly disagreement."

That's not the only reason Jim is making this request.

According to a statement, both he and his new wife, Kortnie, are worried about the children's health and well-being while they're with Meghan. They have described Meghan as "unstable, unfit, unwilling to co-parent, and unable to provide an environment for the children that is emotionally and physically safe."

They are also hoping that an updated arrangement will give the children — 6-year old daughter Aspen and 4-year-old twin sons Hart and Hayes — more stability.

Both Jim and Kortnie hope a change will be good for the kids.

Jim's rep's statement went on to accuse Meghan of "intentionally creating obstacles" to put distance between him and his kids.

"If Meghan is unable to effectively parent and co-parent under this new agreement, Jim is prepared to continue to seek greater custody of the children to ensure their emotional and physical well-being."

Meghan doesn't seem too worried about Jim's new claims.

The former Real Housewives of Orange County star spoke out about her ex's accusations.

"History can speak for itself," she told Page Six. "Jim has had three separate mothers of his children, and we've all experienced the same kind of thing. So I'm just gonna let that speak for itself."

Oof. This is likely going to get a whole lot uglier before it's over. Let's hope these two can come together and do what's best for their children.
