John Travolta’s New Look Isn’t AI, But People Have Theories for His Youthful Appearance

Over the years, John Travolta has changed plenty. Aging in Hollywood and in the public eye will do that for you. But when he stepped out at the Cannes Film Festival in 2026 with daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, he had a different look that people immediately began to discuss on X (formerly Twitter). Hey, it comes with the territory when you’re an award-winning actor who can sing and remain a huge part of the controversial Scientology religion.

John was 72 at the 2026 Cannes. But in the photos shared across social media, he looks barely close to that. Some commented on the X post to point out that his age is in his hands, which, OK, is fair as far as older celebrities go. But others claimed the pictures are AI or edited in some way. The general agreement, though, is that the Grease star has a legitimately new look.

John Travolta looks much younger than 72.

Maybe it’s the beret. Or the perfectly trimmed facial hair. Or, I don’t know, the almost completely smooth and wrinkle-free complexion? But people couldn’t help but take notice of John at Cannes because of what is clearly a new look for the 72-year-old actor. Who knows, maybe he called up Kris Jenner’s plastic surgeon and got the special that she apparently had when she stepped out with her own youthful new look.

“For 72 DAMN!” Someone commented on the X post with a video of John at Cannes. “He looks better than he did 10 years ago.”

Another person joked, in reference to getting plastic surgery, “John laid on that table and got SNATCHED.”

“His skin is tied up like a balloon knot under that beret,” someone else commented.

John attended the film festival with daughter Ella to promote the movie Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which he directed and which Ella stars in. He also received, according to Page Six, an honorary Palme d’Or award for his film in the festival. The Apple Original movie was also his directorial debut.

Some people think it’s AI.

Those who didn’t share their astonishment at John’s new look did share their disbelief. Like, actual disbelief. Some even commented on the X post with the video to speculate on if the footage is AI-generated. And, to be fair, there is a decent amount of AI content on social  media these days that slips through the cracks unnoticed.

“This AI, this [is] not him,” an X user wrote. “He looks like he’s 25 years old here!”

“Nope. That’s not Johnny,” another person wrote. “That’s a made up version of him. He loves make up and fake beards and fake hair. None of that facial hair is real. Not even his eyebrows.”

Someone else seemingly found the reason behind the video where John appears to be half his age. They shared a screenshot of John looking older, though still much younger than 72, and wrote, “This video is filtered. He looks his age. And good.”

He’s still a huge celebrity face of Scientology.

Well before Scientology gained as much mainstream steam as it now has, John was one of the main celebrity spokespeople for the religion. And, today, he remains a prominent face of Scientology. Despite any backlash he might face, and, frankly, jokes regarding his faith, John continues to work as an actor and now, as a director.

But way back in 2007, John appeared on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and spoke about Scientology openly.

“It’s given me all the tools to survive in life that I need and it helps so many people and we are all over the world, and we go out of our way to help people, whether it’s natural disasters or personal help of their lives,” he said at the time. “And I’ve always found it an enormous help and tool for me to survive better.”
