Meredith Gaudreau is celebrating the arrival of her third child. On April 7, 2025, Meredith announced that she gave birth to a son named Carter Michael Gaudreau on April 1. She noted that her son already looks so much like his late father, professional hockey player Johnny Gaudreau. Seven months ago, Johnny and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed by a driver while biking.
Meredith shared the news on social media.
On April 7, Meredith shared several photos of her newborn baby. “I had our third baby! 4/1/25,” she captioned her Instagram post. “Another baby boy 🥹💙 Carter Michael Gaudreau – same middle name as his daddy. 8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches – exact same as his daddy. He looks exactly like his daddy too 🥰.”
“I love you so much my baby!” she continued. “We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.”
She announced her pregnancy during the brothers’ memorial service.
Johnny and Matthew were killed in August 2024. During the memorial service for the brothers, Meredith announced that she was nine weeks pregnant.
“John and I had the best six months as a family of four. These will forever be the best six months of my life,” she said in September, per ABC News. “There’s specifically one week that I will cherish forever – it will be my favorite week of my life out of those six months. We’re actually a family of five. I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby.”
She revealed that when she shared the news with Johnny, he was “beaming and so excited.”
She called the pregnancy ‘the ultimate blessing.’
Meredith and Johnny welcomed their first child, Noa, in 2022. In 2024, they welcomed their son Johnny.
“Noa, our oldest, hasn’t even turned 2 yet. In less than three years of marriage, we’ve created a family of five,” Meredith said during the September memorial service. “It doesn’t even sound possible, but I look at it as the ultimate blessing. How lucky am I to be the mother of John’s three babies? Our last one being a blessing and so special despite these difficult circumstances.”
In February, she celebrated their son Johnny’s first birthday.
In an Instagram post, Meredith shared that her late husband was so happy when Johnny was born. “‘I can’t believe you gave me a boy,’ is all John said over and over again when baby Johnny arrived,” Meredith wrote in February. “I couldn’t stop staring at how happy John was- one of the best moments of my life.”
In a message for Johnny, she wrote, “All of daddy’s accomplishments don’t compare to the pride and joy he had in being your father.”
She concluded the post with, “Thank you, John for giving me our boy. Thank you for our family. Crazy first year but today we celebrate 🥳💙.”
Matthew Gaudreau’s wife also welcomed a baby recently.
At the time of Johnny and Matthew’s death, Matthew’s wife, Madeline, was pregnant with their first child. She announced the birth of their baby on December 29, 2024. “Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋,” Madeline captioned her Instagram post. “Mommy & Daddy’s world.”
