A year ago, an interesting feud ignited between two stars, and it got a lot of attention. JoJo Siwa made a quick video for social media where she shaded Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure. From there, there was some back-and-forth drama between the two and some others in their circle.
The drama died down, as they tend to do. But JoJo has brought it all back up again.
Before we jump into the recent drama, a quick recap of what happened a year ago will help for context. In July 2022, JoJo shared a TikTok video where she flashed photos of celebrities on her phone to the camera to answer prompt questions.
Some of the prompt questions were things like who the nicest celebrity is, which celebrity did you have a crush on, and which celebrity is the rudest.
It’s probably easy to guess which one prompted JoJo to show a photo of Candace.
Yes, she called Candace the “rudest” celebrity. The video blew up, Candace saw it, JoJo explained why she called her the rudest.
JoJo explained that her feelings on Candace stemmed from the first time they met on a red carpet. JoJo was only 11 years old, and she explained that at the time she asked Candace for a photo and she was told “not right now.” JoJo said she then, however, saw Candace stop to take photos with other kids.
Candace addressed JoJo, the two seemed to bury the bad blood, and all seemed to be fine. And JoJo even expressed regret that she sparked the feud in the first place.
But just four months later, JoJo called out Candace again.
In November, JoJo responded to a press release by Candace’s new network, Great American Family, that explained the network will air Christmas movies that focus on "traditional marriage."
“Honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press,” JoJo wrote on Instagram. “This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”
It’s been a year since the initial callout, and JoJo is talking about Candace again.
JoJo was recently a guest on the July 27 episode of The Viall Files and she and host Nick Viall talked about JoJo’s drama with Candace.
"It wasn’t that she wants to do a movie about that, it's that she wants to do a movie about that to put down LGBTQIA, and that she was specifically going to make movies that had no representation of LGBTQIA, which is fine," JoJo told Nick on his podcast.
"Not everything needs to be gay essentially, but when you’re doing it out of spite to say, ‘Too much is about LGBTQ right now, you guys suck and I want to make a movie about traditional marriage, and you’re not traditional,' that got to me a little bit."
Now JoJo is walking back the regret she initially felt for calling out Candace as being ‘rude.’
"After that, it gave me a little sense of like, 'OK, you and her are never going to agree, you and her are never going to be friends, you and her are never going to get along," JoJo said. "I’m never going to be able to change her, she’s not going to be able to change me. We can both just live life, we can both just have fun.
"I wish she was able to be a little more open, a little more accepting," JoJo added. "I’m OK with calling her out in the way that I did. For a while I regretted it, but after I found out that article about her not wanting anything to do with LGBTQIA, that’s my people. And I’ve got to stand up for my people, and that’s messed up."
