Joshua Jackson Makes Surprising Confession About Affairs as He Gets Candid About Marriage

When it comes to betrayals of the heart, Joshua Jackson appears to be more forgiving than most. In a new interview with the Sunday Times, the Dawson's Creek star opened up about his thoughts on cheating. It seems Joshua — who married Jodie Turner-Smith in 2019 — doesn't think infidelity has to spell the end of a relationship if the couple wants to work through it.

Joshua thinks people can forgive and forget when they want to.

The 44-year-old got candid about his thoughts on extramarital affairs while promoting his new show, a reboot of the classic movie Fatal Attraction, which centers on a philandering husband. Joshua admitted that he believes an affair can be "forgiven" under the right circumstances.

Forgiveness doesn't come without putting in the work, though.

Joshua went on to clarify his comments. "I think an affair can be forgiven," he said. "We're all grown-ups. No one wants to be cheated on, and there is massive repair to be done."

That being said, he doesn't think the weight of that work falls on the person who was cheated on.

There is often more to the story when a partner strays.

"Affairs aren't about the partner, they're about the person who has transgressed," he continued. "It's not purely about the sex. There's a deeper violation."

Joshua likely has a good reason for spending so much time thinking about cheating — and no, it's not because he has a guilty conscious. Instead, he has spent a lot of time working on acting projects with infidelity central to the storyline, including HBO's The Affair.

As far as we know, Joshua and Jodie are happily married with no signs that anyone has been unfaithful.

Fans needn't worry about the sanctity of Joshua and Jodie's marriage. Joshua gushed about the mother of his child later in the interview, admitting that the pair found each other at the perfect time in their lives.

"If we had met five years earlier, we probably would have had a torrid affair, but all the rest of this stuff, I was just not ready," he said, admitting he didn't want to get married until Jodie surprised him by popping the question while they were traveling together.

Six months after Joshua said 'yes,' the two discovered they were expecting a baby.

Things may have moved quickly between them, but Joshua doesn't have any regrets.

"Now we have this beautiful baby who is literally the manifestation of that love," he explained. "It is impossible for me to look into the face of my child without feeling love for my wife. [Fatherhood] has changed me in every single possible way."

We have to admit, we're thrilled to hear that Joshua wasn't speaking from experience when it comes to being unfaithful, and we're glad to know everything is still going so well for our favorite celeb couple.
