Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth recently welcomed their third child to the world. On May 19, the couple announced the birth of their baby on social media with the first photo of their new son.
Their initial announcement didn’t share many details, other than mom and baby were doing well, but in a follow-up, the former reality TV couple gave more information, including their new son’s name.
On Instagram, Joy-Anna posted another photo of her new baby and some typical announcement details.
On May 21, a new photo of Joy-Anna’s son was shared to her Instagram — the first good look at their baby, and the proud mama shared details including his birthday, weight at birth, and his name.
“Gunner James Forsyth,” the mom of three shared, adding a blue heart emoji at the end.
Her little man was born on May 17, weighing “8lbs 14oz,” she shared in the caption, and it sounds like everyone is doing well.
“Soaking up every moment. He is the sweetest lil man,” Joy-Anna added.
People had feelings about the name.
You can probably ask any parent and they’ll have a story about someone who hates the name they chose for their kiddo.
Unfortunately, given how large the Duggar’s platform is — with both people who love and support them and those who do not — Joy-Anna had a lot of people share their opinions on the name they’ve given their new kiddo. Some were pleased but others were not.
“I also have a Gunnar (my oldest 25yrs old now) and a Gideon (my youngest 21yrs old) both serving in the United States Marine Corp,” one person shared on Instagram. “Congratulations.”
“We have a Gunnar in my family and he’s an amazing little blessing!” shared another fan.
“Love his name, congratulations.” added someone else.
But the people who don’t like the name were really loud in the comment section.
“That’s funny he has the same name as one of my childhood dogs and the same birthday as my current dog,” one critic wrote in the comments.
“The name James [is] much better then gunner,” another person shared. “Don't make him have to explain his name.”
People were even more brutal in the Duggar Snark Reddit community, where they didn’t hold back.
On Reddit, where critics of the Duggar family rarely have anything nice to say, there were a lot of opinions on the name.
“Almost too predictable for their family,” one person wrote.
“Nothing more redneck than the name Gunner,” another commenter added.
'That's a dog's name,' and 'Gunner is a name for a dog, not a child,' other critics wrote.
“I saw his name and laughed because I had a feeling they would go redneck,” someone else wrote. “Their next boy will be named Hunter.”
“This is such an obvious name pick for them I felt like I already knew it,” another critic shared.
“I really hate this name. It sounds so hick & it also seems like a tribute to what Austin loves: guns,” added someone else.
There’s a very strong chance that no matter which name the Forsyths chose for their baby would be criticized online. We're glad to hear the expanded family is doing well.
